January Twofer Challenge

One of my favorite monthly challenges is called "Twofer Card Challenge" which requires the use the exact the same stamp or die to make two cards with distinctly different designs for two different occasions. The January Challenge is named "Hearts" and I had fun using a Bold Scribble Heart Wood Mount Stamp to create an elegant wedding card and an unusual pizza-themed Valentines Card.

Twofer Card Challenge- #23 Hearts

For the wedding card, I embossed the heart with dark pink pigment ink and Clear Sparkle Embossing Powder (it doesn’t show in the pics, but the heart has a lovely sparkle that doesn’t overwhelm the card) then fussy-cut around it. To add elegance to the card I used rich papers- bright white and brushed silver cardstock and music score vellum as the base of the card. Stamped the “wedding couple” image with black ink, colored them with alcohol markers and trimmed to fit atop the heart. I wanted the inside of the card to reflect the eclectic flavor of the card from so I dug through my “wedding tidbits” folder and found the wonderful vellum sentiment (I added a bit of color to the rose), and an upcycled sentiment. I added a small scrap of music score vellum and a hand-cut heart cut from the brushed silver cardstock scrap to finish it off. So pretty!   AM entering this card into several challenges including the Path of Positivity Challenge (the card represents my character trait of loving weddings. More specifically, I love being married to my bestest friend. Every day spent with him is precious!)

A Perfect Time to Craft 2020-Anything Goes- Challenge #1

My Valentine's card was inspired by a CAS card that featured the fun “You have a Pizza my heart” freebie sentiment. I seldom make CAS cards as I like layers and embellishments but I do admire the ones that others create. One of my favorites is artist Hannelie Bester (her blog is named "Desert Diva" and she not only creates amazing cards, she also creates many of the sentiments she uses and provides them as freebies on her blog.) I provided a pic of the card that inspired my card and a link to the freebie sentiment below. If you take some time to explore the site I know you’ll not only love all the freebie sentiments that are offered, but you’ll also be wowed by Hannelie’s amazing creativity!
I love how the Bold Scribble Heart looks like cheesy pizza when embossed on reddish/brown cardstock with white pigment ink and cream-colored embossing powder. I used lots of scraps to create the pizza toppings- tomatoes (small circles cut from red plastic document folder- punches don’t work on the slippery plastic), pepperoni (small circles punched from kraft paper scraps,  shaded with various brown and deep red markers), green peppers (little snippets of different colored green paper), onions (very small circles cut from vellum- no larger than a pencil eraser in diameter. Concentric circles are drawn with a regular pencil create the look of a sliced onion, especially when lightly smudged with a blender marker. When cut into small pie-shaped pieces, they really do look like chopped onion slices!) I slit the “cheesy pizza top” in more than a dozen places and slid the toppings into them, taping them down on the backside. A few of the toppings were just glued atop the cheese. I drew around the cheesy pizza top on kraft cardstock to create the crust. After adding shading (light brown marker) and highlights (white colored pencil) I adhered the cheesy topping to the crust then cut a “slice” from the pizza and set it aside.  I drew around the finished pizza on the “Aroma Seal” that I upcycled from a can of Folgers coffee, scoring around the edge a few times to create the lip of the pizza pan, then cutting it to size.  The rest of the card went together pretty quickly with strips of napkins and two  sentiments (one stamp, one free digi noted below.)  Although this was time-intensive, I really had fun making it and love how it turned out. The only downside is that I am now REALLY hungry for pizza!
