Mid April Fun

Wanted to make a few more cards for the current Simon Says Monday Challenge "Down on the Farm" so I printed off an image and sentiment from a wonderful digi set from Beccy's Place named "Farm Fresh." The barn image is an old rubber stamp that I pulled off of its wood mount [so I don't know the name of the company] and the trees are an old Embossing Arts wood mount. The images are colored with Spectrum Noir markers and white gel pen. I made the "plowed ground" by laying a torn edge of scrap paper across the paper and sponging brown ink to make ridges. I added a line across each furrow with a light brown marker to provide more definition. The only thing missing is the flock of gulls that often swoop over the newly plowed fields to snarf up the earthworms and bugs that have been displaced. It is a  noisy ballet of wildlife that I always enjoyed.  Add the symphony of bawling cows and other barnyard squawks, barks, and quacks and you can't help but know that the earth is coming alive for yet another year.

The challenge at wecraftcard Forum this week was a fun one. We were to make an Accordion card using a video tutorial provided HERE. I used a free image and sentiment provided by Outlawz for the April Progressive Challenge. It is called "I'm Sorry" from Oddball Art. The "I'm Sorry" sentiment is from the Oddball digi set, the others are computer generated. Oh… and the candy that was consumed in the making of the card was yummy.

I love the delicate beauty of Ching-Chou Kuik's Digital Stamps. This image is a favorite which I'm able to enter into the current challenge named "Cats or Dogs." The image is named "Love Maneki-neko."  I was curious about the digis name, and after a little research discovered that Maneki-neko means "beckoning cat" and is common Japanese figurine that is believed to bring good luck to the owner. The little cat is so cute that I printed off a second copy of just the cat that I fussy-cut, colored and adhered to the inside of the card. The sentiment on the inside is from a Beccy's Place digi set named "True Beauty."

  1. Hi Kathy,

I really love how you created your farm card, especially the plowed ground. If that's not fitting with our Back to Nature theme at Catch The Bug, I don't know what is! Thanks for joining us, and good luck! :)

  2. Love the fabulous farm card Kathy, and how clever to add some "ploughed ground" out front of the old barn... thanks for sharing your technique.
I had to chuckle when reading about the sacrifice you made to collect the chocolate wrappers for the second card. Now that's commitment! Fabulous sentiments and great card fold too.
Your last card is beautiful Kathy, the digital stamp is lovely and you've done a wonderful job with the colouring. I love the lacy edges too.
    Cheers,
    Beccy
