Springtime Fun

The last challenge at wecraftcards Forum was an unusual one. The challenge host instructed us to PM him if we wanted to participate. He then rolled a pair of dice onto which he had taped circles of color. The two colors that popped up were to be the primary color scheme on our card. I had to laugh when he sent me my two colors. Read his comments and you'll see why- "OK, Kathy, I just rolled you some colors and it must be a green day for you, you had double green so I rolled one die again, it came up with green a second time, so I rolled the single die again and it came up with orange. So your colors are lots of green and some orange."
I rarely use either of these colors so I knew it would really be a challenge. But after I looked through my stamps and digis, I found a sweet image from The Paper Shelter that is a perfect fit. It is named "YMMV" [Don't have a clue what that stands for… but I had fun coloring it with Spectrum Markers and white gel pen.] The sentiment on the front is from an Imagine That digi set named "Giraffe with Butterflies."  Am entering the card into several challenges, most have a Spring or Garden theme. Yay.

I stumbled upon Scribbles Designs Challenge a short time ago and was glad that I did. They have so many neat designs… and also offer freebies from time to time. I used one of the freebies for this card called "Its Your Day." You can find it HERE. I colored it with Spectrum Noir markers, and added some circles of yellow vellum for some candle "glow." The holographic paper on the cards background is actually a scrap of upcycled gift wrap. [I do so LOVE to upcycle.] Am entering this into a few challenged including the Outlawz Tuesday Color Challenge [my card includes several of those pretty pastel colors, plus… the twist of something sweet is not visible on the card, but those candles are surely perched atop a large yummy cake, right?]

My last card for this post is for a favorite challenge, called Pixie's Snippets. The challenge sponsor, a creative and generous paper artist named Di, invites us to use the many little bits and pieces of paper, ribbon, etc. create things of beauty. I love that idea… and have a ton of scraps. Just ask my hubby. On second thought… don't ask him. He doesn't understand my love of snippets. Anywhooo, for this card I used some strips of paper to make a very simple but eye-catching "Chevron Fold" that I found HERE. I positioned these onto my background and attached them with double stick tape. Then… had fun using up some snippets of colored vellum to make pretty Spring flowers [one must NEVER throw away vellum scraps… no matter how small. Vellum is one of my favorite types of paper to add a touch of wow to a card.] Added a freebie sentiment from PaperSmooches [you can find it HERE. and a cute little bee that I cut from a scrap of scrapbook paper. The final touch was to use a fine line black Sharpie marker to draw the antennae on the bee and add the dotted line "trail."  Am entering this card into several challenges including Bugaboo and A2Zscrapbooking [both require folds,] If You Give a Crafter a Cookie [the current cookie photos feature flowers… and bugs] and Outlawz Thursday Challenge that requires the card features our favorite technique and why [one of my favorite techniques is to use vellum on a card. Just realized that I used vellum on two of the cards on this post. On one card the vellum provided a hazy layer to set the image off from the background. In the other, the vellum provided some muted color and texture to the card.
