Stamping on acetate and more!

Have a box of acetate (transparency sheets) that I used to use when I made overhead transparencies (Yep… before laptops and PowerPoints it was like we lived in prehistoric times!)  I pulled it out last night and made a few cards for current challenges. Love the look… but the process involves a little TLC, so here are a few tips.
Since these sheets can handle heat, you can stamp right on them with pigment ink and embossing power (fine is best) or, use Staz On ink. With either option, work carefully as the inked up stamps slide and smear easily on the acetate. With Staz On, allow a bit of time to dry, or use the heat gun to speed that process.
You can also run the sheets through most printers. However, we recently bought a new printer and I just learned that it takes FOREVER for the ink to dry on these transparencies. (So if you are not patient, I’d opt for embossing or Staz on ink.)

For this first card, I found the ship in a bottle and world map through a google search for free clip art/images. Printed the ship image on a transparency sheet and discovered that it took forever to dry. (You might notice a smudge or two if you look closely. Finally hit it with my heat gun, but carefully so it didn’t curl and buckle up.) Paper pieced the tiny sails on the ship because I couldn’t find my little bottle of white out OR my permanent white pen (buried somewhere on my craft table). Besides, I love to fussy cut. Also cut a small iece of Kraft brown and adhered it to the cork. The corks texture is from the printed design on the acetate. Cool, huh? Put everything together, added a sentiment, and the card is ready to enter into a challenge with a nautical theme. So fun! (And the reflection from my camera flash just proves that the bottle is truly "glass-like"!)

For this card, I stamped the image on acetate with Staz On, allowed it to dry, then colored on the backside with markers. First I lightly sanded the acetate to give it some “tooth.” Then I used a combination of marker types- Sharpie permanent green for the cord, and Tombows for the mice and light bulbs. Also, punched a small circle from a scrap of paper and used it to add a ring of “light glow” around the bulbs. (In the photo only the blue ones show, but the red and yellow bulbs also have a bit of glow in real life.) I did have to set this aside for the Tombow markers to dry while I worked on the rest of the card. I am not much of a mouse lover, but I do think this duo is kinda cute.

Bugaboo Stamps is celebrating a Christmas in July event with daily challenges!
Here is my entry for Day 4 (July 18). Was fun to use a sheet of music that was in my hubby’s grandmothers “stash” that was given to me a few years ago. Most of the copyrights are from the 1930s… with a few from the early 1900’s. (Of course, I am only tearing scraps like this from the pages that are already damaged!)

I am loving CASEing Poppy Powers DT’s in their current challenge. Actually, their paper artists are so talented that I now have a folder with 87 card pics that I’ll be using for inspiration in the coming months. Pretty amazing ladies! This card was inspired by a card (posted below) that was created by Stacy Morgan. Stacy rocks a bright and bold color palette, often using complimentary colors, which challenges me to step out of my comfort zone. I’ve always loved Peonies, so this card was so fun to put together. It will be in the mail to my sweet MIL by the end of the week. (She also loved peonies… but not the ants that often come with them!)
Note- I found a template that fits into an A2 sized envy here  http://apathofpaper.blogspot.ca/2014/04/top-tip-tuesday-numbers-challenge-and.html

And made another card to enter into a CAS/Single layer card challenge. CASEd this card after one that I received from a friend many years ago. My friend, Molly, excelled at making CAS cards, often with an unexpected twist of creativity. For this card, the twist is a simple fold and cut. Molly passed away about 8 years ago after a short struggle with cancer. We had many laughs together in one of our craft rooms getting inky and sparkly (Molly once made us badges that read, “Yes, I know I have glitter on my face!”) It was fun to remember those times while crafting this weekend.
