June 5- (Monday)
Love this Pinterest photo inspired challenge! The current challenge was a photo of a mother holding a baby, with lots of lace and soft colors. I tried to mirror the lacy feeling with sponging over a strip of paper lace. And have always loved this sentiment!

I have a huge stash of patterned paper from my scrapbooking days. It was fun to put it to use in this challenge. Plus, found an adorable card idea on Pinterest that lent itself perfectly to this challenge. And was so easy to put together that I made not one but two cards!

I’ve been seeing lots of challenges with flowers and bugs lately. So… was able to swat at three challenges with this one card. And it is a stunner! A double side step card made with elegant scrapbook paper and strips of acetate that set the butterflies a flight. (The butterflies were fussy cut from an upcycles magazine page. Definitely NOT a CAS card… but so very lovely!) The card base was surprisingly simple. You can find directions for it here http://glimmercraft.blogspot.ca/2013/03/double-sided-step-card-tutorial.html

This card is being entered into two challenges: one features travel (and being from Wisconsin, travel HAS to include a nice Harley!), the other requires a masculine card. Although a lot of women enjoy motorcycles, the men in my family LOVED to get bugs in their teeth! And since I lived for much of my childhood in South Dakota, which is known for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, I used a SD map for my background, with the Black Hills featured just to the left of the bike. We lived near Sturgis when the Rally 's 50th Anniversary was held. The roar of the bikes was deafening, making it sound like the hills were filled with busy bees as attendance topped the charts at 400,000!

AAA Cards is celebrating their third anniversary this week. So their challenge is to create a CAS birthday card. (I have a hard time with CAS because I like to color and layer and fussy-cut! So, I hope that this card qualifies as a CAS. Was my first attempt at Zentangle, and I found it relaxing and fun. Might need to make more of them!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your adorable giraffe card with everyone at the Casual Fridays Challenge. What a fun card! I know what you mean about all those stockpiled patterned papers. One of these days I'll get back to scrapbooking but probably won't use many of those papers so it's great to put them to use in cards sometimes!!
