Last year I met a talented young artist named Sherry West via
her FB page. I fell in love with her adorable images and was thrilled to win a
few of them through contests on her FB page HERE. She has an Etsy shop HERE and is also making a name for
herself as an author. Her first children’s book, named “It’s Raining Cats Dogs And Pollywogs,” quickly sold
out the first run on Amazon last Christmas. How exciting is that?! I was
honored when she recently asked me to join her DT. My schedule is pretty busy
right now, but I also wanted to help this wonderful young artist so I said “Yes”…
and these are the first two cards I’ve made in that capacity.
The first card features her newest work of art which
was recently named in a contest on her FB page. Meet Princess Petunia Penelope Posey Poppi Posh (I
call her Princess P for short!) I had fun coloring her and adding a bit of fun
with wiggly eyes! The cloudy sky was created with a cloud template cut from
scrap paper, decorative chalks and a makeup sponge and the sentiments are both freebies. I'm entering this card into several challenges including Power Poppy's Find Your Inner Happy (Princess P looks like she is happy in every cell of her cute little body! I'm going to strive for that today.) and The Paper Shelter's Girl Power (I'd say that a pig named Princess followed by five other names must feel pretty powerful.) The Paper Shelter- #419 Girl Power

The second card features a sweet digi named, appropriately, Sweet Spring, that was recently provided as a gift through the Kit & Clowder FB page. Sherry was thrilled that offering this freebie dramatically increased the number of her FB page members to over 1500! This digi actually comes with three slightly different versions of the cute image. I used a scrap of floral wallpaper from a sample book that I’ve had in my stash for… well… a few decades! The sentiments are computer generated and a bit of bling was added with pink gems plus a layer of Stickles on her wings and o the the little bumblebee wings.

I
wanted to make a card for the newly posted Snippets challenge (which I always
love because it means that I get to use all the little bits and pieces that I
hate to throw away.) So I dug through my scrap box and found a nice sized piece
of a wavy water paper and several scraps, plus bits of wonderful purple
document plastic! If you follow my blog you’ll be familiar with plastic document
folders as they
are one of my favorite accessories! These wonderful items come in a pack of
assorted colors and can be found in the office supply section of most stores
and sometimes dollar stores. They're cheaper than colored vellum and are more
translucent. The plastic is also very easy
to fussy-cut with a sharp scissor. And I try not to waste the tiniest scrap!
I
colored the sweet penguin digi and set it aside. I next used two techniques to make
the pool ring look “real.” First, I cut the largest scrap of the wavy water background
paper into a 4 x 5¼ inch rectangle and adhered it to a white A2 card front. I fussy
cut the pool ring from the penguin digi and gently taped it back together on
the flip side. I then laid the pool ring atop the card front and lightly sketched
the water ripples onto the pool ring. When finished I used three shades of blue
Spectrum Noir alcohol markers to color the ripples to match the background and
used a few teal-colored markers to color the polka dots. A thin line of white
gel pen a short distance from the edges of the pool ring and immediately smudged
with my fingers added the illusion of a highlight (and a touch of realism.) I
then attached a scrap of a purple plastic document folder slightly larger than
the pool ring with a few touches of snail adhesive and trimmed the plastic to
size. Lastly, I adhered the penguin back snuggly into his pool ring, taped him
securely in place and then attached the pool ring to the card with foam tape. I cut a few extra scraps of the
purple plastic into stars that I added to the front and inside
of the card to add a little more color to the background (and to not waste any
of these wonderful scraps.)
