I joined the
DT at Sheepski at the beginning of the year and have enjoyed getting to know Andrea
(artist/owner) and the other DT’s. Andrea alerts us of opportunities to enter
cards into challenges that Sheepski is sponsoring. I made this card for one of
those opportunities, the Winter Wonderland Challenge (which is new to me.) Since
this challenge is a tribute to the blogs past owner/DT coordinator I wanted to
create a special card. I decided to make a penny slider card so that the snowball
on the sweet penguin digi named “Catch” can actually soar through the “air.” I
provided two photos of the card to show the snowball in two positions. (When I
was finished and shook the card to make the snowball move, I got a good laugh.
The reason? I had positioned the slider cutout a little high, so it appears
that the snowball is hitting the penguin on the right in the head. This
reminded me of the many snowball fights my siblings and I enjoyed when we were
young. Getting “beaned” was standard practice… especially for those of us that
were not very good at throwing OR dodging!! (Note- if you’ve never made a penny
slider card, you might be surprised at how easy they are. Check out the tutorial
HERE and give it a try.)

I made this card for the current Simon
Says Monday Challenge named “Inspired by Music.” One of my staff is a violinist,
so I made this card for her upcoming birthday. She teaches Sunday School at her
church, so I think she’ll also like the sheet music background. (My hubby's grandmother
was a church choir director in the 1940s. After her death, we discovered boxes
full of choir books in the attic of her home, and I love using them on cards.
This song is especially dear to me as it was my mom’s favorite hymn. She often
sang when doing housework… and I fondly remember hearing this one often.) I’m entering this card into several
challenges including The Butterfly Challenge (my card includes one color- thistle on her tie and two themes- two butterflies on
the front and again on the inside.)

ReplyDeleteYour Inspired by Music card is lovely, Kathy! Your coloring is beautiful and the butterflies are perfect for the hymn title! I have to say, I love that hymn, also! Hi sweet Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI know you only entered one card in at The Paper Shelter, but I have somethi9ng to say about all of them!
Your penny-slider is fantastic, and I LOVE the fact that the snowball whacks the one penguin on the head. It's allowed your card to go from 'fun', to 'hilarious'!
Gorgeous colouring on your clover card, and such a beautiful sentiment. Thank you for sharing it with us at The Paper Shelter
Your music card is wonderful! I've never heard of that particular song, so I have looked it up and I'm listening to Dolly Parton sing it to me as I type this. The fact that the sheet music comes from the treasure trove you found in the attic, makes this card so personal and even more beautiful!
What a sweet image and you've colored her beautifully for St. Patty's Day! Fabulous cards Kathy! Thanks so much for joining in the fun at our Double D ‘Hello’ challenge! Good Luck and we hope you’ll come back often.
