Christmas Puddin'

This entry for Beccy's Place Sixth Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge inspired by the letter "S" is Shape Card. The gingerbread cutie is and sentiment on the front of the card are from the Beccy's Place digi set "Sugar and Spice."  I colored him with Spectrum Noir markers and white gel pen. The template for the wonderful Christmas Pudding shaped easel card is a freebie [find it here- birdscards.com/christmas-pudding-easel-card] The sentiment on the inside of the card is a freebie from TLC [createwithtlc.blogspot.com]
Just discovered a blog challenge in which I HAD to enter this card, the Jingle Belles "Bring Us Some Figgy Pudding" challenge. It required that the card includes festive food. Well… I think that this card nailed it!

I joined the Outlawz Challenges some time ago but found the site pretty overwhelming. However, the other members have been so very gracious and helpful. So… I'm learning my way around the site and starting to enter more challenges. This card is for the Saturday Paper Alamode challenge, "Anything But A Card." The challenge requires patterned paper and a die cut. This tag, with the red dotted Swiss paper and die-cut tag is the perfect fit. Especially when paired with a vintage PSX Holly stamp and Embossing Arts sentiment.

I found a box of these party invitations recently at a thrift store. Six for a buck… how could I say no?  Since I wanted a greeting card instead of an invitation, I cut the front from a card and layered it atop several colors of bright cardstock. I then printed "You have reason to…" onto a sheet of vellum. This took planning because I wanted to create an arrow with the vellum that connected the sentiment to the word Party.  Added a red paper punched star and a vellum star on the lower right corner and a computer generated sentiment on the inside. So fun!

Made another simple yet elegant Sympathy card for Simon Says Wednesday Challenge, "All That Glitters is Gold." The unusual background is from the late 90's. At that time a friend and I owned a stamp store in South Dakota and had fun trying out new tools and techniques. At one point we bought a few cans of gold spray webbing. Learned that it created a beautiful background, but smelled like gasoline and was VERY messy to use [found out that the best way to use it was to lay sheets of cardstock on the bottom of a large cardboard box and spray down into the box with sweeping strokes. The box then had to be put in the garage for a while until the smell dissipated.]  I found this scrap when digging through some partially completed cards this weekend and had to put it to use. [Luckily it no longer smelled like gasoline!] The sentiment is also from the late 90's [I removed it from the wood mount some time ago don't know the brand, but think that it is a Stampin' Up or Hero Arts stamp.] Stamped it in gold pigment and embossed it with a glittery gold embossing powder. Added a few layers of dark colored scraps and a bit of sheer ribbon to finish it off. Am also entering this into the current Bugaboo BINGO [using the diagonal from upper left to lower right, sentiment/embossing/sparkle.]

  4. Love the figgy card Kathy, the holly looks particularly fabulous with the embossed veins. You did a great job colouring and fussy cutting the image. Awesome card fold too!
Your second card is wonderful. Love the pretty vintage vibe it has as well as the traditional colour scheme.
The party card is terrific Kathy, great idea to use the pre-made invitations as the base of your project. I like the addition of the vellum over the top... very cool!
Your sympathy card is lovely, I like the combination of the buff coloured background and the burgundy ribbon. I remember all the different spray paints that were going around in the 90s. I wonder if they're still available now? Must have a look next time I'm at the hardware.
    Cheers,
    Beccy

  5. Thank you for the sweet words about Outlawz Challenges. It takes a little getting use to, but once you figure it out you will want to join every challenge! :) That is what happened to me anyways, and the ease of having 7 challenges all in one place and not having to jump around all over the internet to enter challenges is a definite plus, plus prizes in every challenge as well as the site wide prizes for linking up the cards you entered in the challenges on our Inlinks. If you havent joined yet we would love to see your beautiful creations on Mondays Greetings where you must have a sentiment on the front of the card or Twisted Thursdays where it is always an ANYTHING GOES challenge with an Optional Twist. :)
