Winter Warmth

My entry in Beccy's Place Fifth Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge for the letter "L" is Lantern. This one is actually one of Beccy's free digis. I printed the digi on vellum and colored it with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. Drew a candle and flame on an oval of white cardstock, added a bit of yellow and orange coloring, then adhered it behind the vellum. Cut a piece of gray patterned scrapbook paper and mounted it behind the vellum with silver photo mounts. Finished off the card with some white gel pen and silver fine-line sharpie highlights. Am also entering this into the SumMoreFun challenge (my card includes red ribbon and greenery like their mood board.)

My mom was a quilter, so her children all grew up enjoying a warm quilt that included scraps of many of the clothes that she had sewn for us over the years.  I tried my hand at quilt making, but because I couldn't sew a straight line or a tight point I did more seam ripping than sewing! Then I discovered "crazy quilting" and loved the many stitches that I could use to create works of art. I haven't made a quilt yet, but have made a few pillow toppers and, after making this card with a small quilted square, I'll be making more of these in the future. I used scraps of velvet and old silk ties, plus embroidery floss, gold cord, beads, and thin silk ribbon.

  1. WOW! Your lantern card is absolutely beautiful Kathy, you've done an amazing job with it. What a great idea to print onto the vellum so you could add the candle behind the "glass", and the addition of the candlelight is fabulous. The flowers and holly look gorgeous, and you did an amazing job colouring the ribbon.
Your second snowflake card is wonderful, great choice of colours. Once again, you've done a good job cutting, embossing and stamping all the different flakes.
I love your crazy quilting card Kathy, it's fabulous! The colours are wonderful and I love the pattern and variety of stitches. Our craft group is actually having a work shop early next year on this technique, which I'm really looking forward to. Great job!
    Cheers,
    Beccy
