A Weekend of Crafting (Part 1)

Have been having so much fun making cards for Beccy's Place Fifth Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge (that is based on the alphabet). In an earlier challenge, Beccy shared that one of her favorite techniques is "altering images slightly to fit in with whatever occasion I'm creating for. I like to call this 'extending my stamps' because I'm getting more use out of a stamp than what was initially intended."
This past week, when "extending" images from one of Beccy's digi sets, "Gnomes in my Garden" I am realizing that this technique involved imagination. Hence, this one, for the letter "I" is named "Imagination." (Provided a watermark image of the original so you can see the Gnome holding his lantern.) The sentiment is from Beccy's digi set, "Narcissus." The overflowing stocking is from a Whimsie Doodles digi image named "Stocking Goodies." (Provided a watermark image of the original so you can see that the stocking is just one small part of its cuteness! You can find it at www.whimsiedoodles.com) The stocking was sized to fit the card, colored and fussy cut, then mounted over the lantern with foam tape.

I love making cards with fall leaves, so this is my fourth entry into the Simon Says Monday Challenge. The Stampendous leaf stamp is one of my favorite. The sentiment is from Printworks.

Have used this free Mermaid digi several times in the past and always love the results. This card is no exception. Am entering it into three challenges, The Paper Shelter requires that the card is for a Child, Cute Card Thursday requires that the card includes some kind of sparkles (I used iridescent Easter grass behind the sentiment, plus radiant pearls adds shimmer to her tail), and the Deep Ocean Challenge requires that the card is inspired by a song or movie. This creation is inspired by… wait for it… Little Mermaid! (I found the free digi at www.buzzle.com/articles/free-printable-coloring-pages-for-adults.html)

Have had this fun wood mount stamp for many years. (Its wood mounted, which is proof of that!) It's one of my favorite "go to stamps" when I need a quick and cute card. Especially cards for my siblings and childhood friends because I was in a lot of snowball fights in my younger years. This one is will go to my youngest brother, who now lives in Florida, and usually calls to gloat whenever we have blizzards. This year when he does that, he's gonna get hit by a snowball via this card. How fun is that?!

  1. I have this gnome set too. I love how you altered him. I think every card takes a bit of imagination. Yours are inspiring!

  2. Imagination is a wonderful word for the "I" challenge Kathy, and very appropriate for anything that's handmade. You're very clever at extending these images and think up some great ideas for creating holiday cards from non-Christmas stamps.
I haven't seen a Thanksgiving card in pinks and purples before Kathy, but it sure is pretty! The leaves look wonderful in non-traditional colours.
I think it's the Easter grass that really lifts your third card to the next level. The shine and colours are wonderful and have a fantasy look that is perfect for a mermaid. You did a great job with the colouring too.
I love the image on your last card, how cute is that bear?! I like the idea of sending a "snowball" to your younger brother too... there's nothing quite like siblings to remind us of our childhood.
    Cheers,
    Beccy
