I am excited that the Fifth Annual Month of Holiday Cards Challenge at Beccy's Place is on day 21… and I am almost caught up with my entries. Has been such fun to create Christmas cards to fit into the letters of the alphabet, many with digis that Beccy created herself and offers for sale, or provides free, on her site. She also includes tutorials for many, many types of cards and card folds (140 separate tutorials at my count!) If you haven't visited her site I'd suggest it. And, while you are there, you can join in the fun of this challenge!
This is my entry for the letter "S"- "Santa Bear." I used two of the characters from Beccy's "Bear with Me" digi set (one on the front of the card and one on the inside) and gave both of them hats to turn them into Santa Bears. Used a free digi hat from www.clipartmasters.com on the inside bear, and revised it a bit for the bear on the front. Printed the sentiments off on my computer for the front and inside of the card. (PS The checked napkin that I used for the cover background was a bit overwhelming, so I added a few ovals of vellum to tone it down. They provided the perfect base for Santa Bear.)

This wonderful sentiment strip is another one of Beccy's digis, this one is one of her freebie. (You can find it here http://beccysplace.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/margies-christmas-freebie.html). I printed the image on vellum, colored it from the back and added white gel pen highlights. Added a bit of bling and then grounded the whole creation with black corner mounts. Am entering it into a few challenges including the Simon Says Monday Challenge (torn edged paper), and the Callin' All Sista's Color Challenge.

For this card, I "extended" the use of a vintage All Night Media stamp (from 1981), by stamping off of the edge of the card so that he looks like he is escaping the scene vs. holding a balloon. I found the inside sentiment on the internet years ago. Recently spent time researching its source. Didn't find the original author, but it appears that it is actually from the 90's. (http://cyberslayer.co.uk/jokes/diary-of-a-cat-day-751) And the sweet little cat print stamp is from Stampendous.

I love those little hats Kathy, how cute are they?! You did a wonderful job combining the images, great idea and very clever. I really like the addition of the paper napkin too, I don't think I would have thought to do that, even though I've done some napkin art on cards in the past. Love how it looks.
ReplyDeleteYour second card is beautiful, I love how the printed image looks on vellum, and it was a great idea to add some white highlights. The background paper is lovely and gives your project a very refined look.
I got a real chuckle from the "Diary of a Cat", particularly the last lines about eating the houseplants. I love how you've used just a part of the stamp for your card, and the CAS style works perfectly with the design. Great job!
Cheers,
Beccy
