This month’s Sheepski Designs FB Challenge theme is “For the Boys”
and I had fun creating not one but two DT cards using Andreas’ fun digi named “Retro
Rocket.” (The set includes not just a
rocket, but three other fun digis.)
PS Stop by the Sheepski blog to learn more about the monthly
challenges and have a chance to win some wonderful digis created by artist
Andrea Norris!
Here is the first card using the rocket digi. Not sure what the card fold is called, but it is super easy to make. Fold an A2 card the usual way, but with the patterned paper on the inside of the card. Then fold the front section back on itself, revealing the inside pattern and making a platform from which you can “launch” the rocket and attach the sentiment. The rocket required a little shading, highlighting and fussy-cutting, but printed onto the galvanized metal paper I love the way it turned out! (I also punched out the rocket windows, lined them with yellow vellum the attached a “back wall” of the capsule, i.e. paper scrap, with foam tape to create some depth. The “flames” were created with scraps of yellow and red vellum.
Supplies:
· Digi- Sheepski Designs (Retro Rocket)
· Highlighted with Spectrum Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white & silver gel pens
· Front Sentiment- Freebie The Girl Creative (Shoot for the Moon…)
· Galaxy paper and Galvanized Metal Scrapbook Paper-Hobby Lobby
· Scrap of red and yellow vellum, plus other items from my stash.

Anything Goes
And here is the second card, this time I used the disk-shaped spaceship
digi to create a fun “Alien Abduction” themed birthday card. I decided to make a
gate-fold slimline card that would fit into a business-sized envelope. As with
the last card, I folded the patterned paper into the inside of the card and then
folded the sides back on themselves. Once again I printed the digi on the galvanized metal paper and created the depth and illumination of the yellow lit windows with vellum and foam tape. The only difference is that I added assorted Alien gawkers with a black marker and white gel pen. So fun! The “transport beam” was also created with yellow vellum. The sentiments are all computer-generated… and came from my slightly funny brain! My boss is getting this card. She turns 45 today and I know that this card will make her chuckle… or maybe even guffaw!

Challenge- Inlinks Challenge
Over 12 years ago I entered my first ever card challenge in a Forum
that was run by Papercrafts Magazine. I couldn’t believe how helpful and inviting
the members were to the newbies. Within a few weeks, I felt right at home. Although
the site closed its doors a short time later, a few of the members offered to
open another site so that the group could continue meeting. And all these years
later, after a few more moves and changes in leadership, a few steadfast
members remain. I’d been one of them until just recently when family health
issues forced me to step down from a few DT responsibilities and reduce time
spent on my blog and challenges. I do try to stop in occasionally to say
“hello” and be inspired by my talented friends. On my last visit, I loved the
“Chocolate Bar Card Challenge” that was being held. I saved the tutorial so I
could make one of the yummy cards when I had some time. Well… I recently found time and love the results. I made my candy bar dark chocolate (of course!) and although all the scoring on squares was a bit time-consuming, the tutorial and my old
Scor-Buddy made it pretty easy!
I’m
entering this card into several challenges including Double D’s Challenge: Monochromatic (I used shades of brown/tan
papers and gold foil vs. silver. The puffy heart stickers I used were a deep
pink, so I colored them with a rust-colored alcohol marker to fit into the
color scheme), and Path Of
Positivity Challenge: Celebrate
Something Special about your Friends (my sweet blogland friends provided the tutorial for this card and have provided me with so much inspiration and support over the years. They rock!)
Supplies:
·
Tutorial for Chocolate Bar Card found at Splitcoaststampers (I found a few on Pinterest, too. The one here is a gift card holder!)
· Sentiments- Upcycled
from an old greeting card
· Puffy Heart Stickers- Sticko’s
·
Patterned paper, cardstock, gold foil upcycled from a candy bar, and other
items from my stash.
