Stitches

I wanted to make one more card to enter in the current Double D Challenge named Stitches. So I dug through my stamps and digis and found this wonderful digi from Beccy’s Place. I’ve been on a run of making slimline cards since finding an old box of size 10 (business) envelopes in my garage so printed the digi off to fit the full length of a long envelope. Ribbon and lace from my sewing stash and a few items from my scrapbook stash helped pull the card together. If you look closely, you'll see that I drew stitches along the edges of the white and cream-colored paper. (They aren't very straight, but then my stitching isn't the best when I sew either. Home economics class was a challenge for me... and my first, and only, attempt at cross-stitching was... um... humorous! It was a depiction of Mount Rushmore and I miscounted a few stitches that I didn't notice until I was finished. To this day, George Washington looks like he has a broken nose. I don't remember reading about that in any of the history books!)
I didn’t add a sentiment to the inside as this card will be sent to my SIL. She’s a seamstress so will enjoy the theme. And since I haven’t talked with her for a while, I want lots of space to write a note. (I cannot wait until life returns to normal so that we can head back home to South Dakota to visit family. Phone, face-timing and Zooming is no longer enough!)
Supplies:
·   Digi- Beccy’s Place Digital Set (Dress Form with Flowers (retired)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·   Front Sentiment and sewing rulers- family label from my scrapbook stash
·   Assorted background paper, foam tape squares, lace and ribbon from my stash

Last month I won three digis in Ching-Chou Kuik’s Blog Challenge, and I decided to use one for the new challenge that requires the use of dies and/or punches. I love the digi’s bold black & white image that I sized to fill most of the card front. (Being able to change sizes of digis is one of the many reasons that I really like using them!) You can’t see it very well in the pics, but I added a little shading to the image with a grey marker, a few highlights with a white gel pen, and also used a Stardust glitter pen on the turtle doves and inside sentiment. Sparkly hearts, made with red glitter paper and two of my oldest punches add a few pops of color to the card. (I’ve used one of them so many times that I’ve worn the silver label from the top and had to draw it back on with a permanent marker to help with identification!)
I added a WM picture of the inside sentiment so you can see that it includes a trio of little hearts. I found it hard to punch, or even fussy-cut, hearts that small from glitter paper, so I opted to cover them with one large sparkly red heart. I'm entering this into several challenges including Incy Wincy Designs Curvy/Curves (the hearts and many of the doodles and designs inside of the digi image are very curvy!)

Supplies:

A few weeks ago I tried to make a Zig-Zag card and it didn’t work out very well. I salvaged one of the sections that I’d cut from black patterned paper… and it provided a nice backdrop for the Christmas colors on this card. Yay! This sweet image, and the two sentiments- were all provided at no charge for participants in the Outlawz July Progressive Challenge. You can’t see it in the photo, but I added a little Stickles to the spice drops to make it look like they are sprinkled with sugar. So fun!
I'm entering this scared into several challenges including  the current Power Poppy Creative Confetti that requires a slimline card. (Since this fits into a business envelope, I think it will qualify.

  16. I think your sister-in-law will love the card you created for her Kathy, it's fabulous! I like the different papers you used in the background as well as the measuring tapes and the blackboard-style sentiment. It reminds me of an old haberdashery that used to be in my town when I was growing up.
I love the addition of the sparkly red hearts on your second card, the pop of colour and shine is awesome! I'm impressed that your punch still works after so many used Kathy, mine tend to jam up after a few years, never to punch again.
I shouldn't poke fun, but you have a little typo in your last paragraph that made me smile. For a second I was wondering why you were nervous about such a fabulous card! Heh heh. It's so cute Kathy and you did an awesome job with the colouring. I love the addition of the dimensional paint on the icing around the gingerbread man.
    Cheers,
    Beccy
