Bugaboo Christmas in July- Day 1

I'd only been blogging a few months when Bugaboo celebrated its 2017 Christmas in July event. It was so much fun! I participated then… and every July since! Yesterday I spent the afternoon happily making Christmas cards in my little craft room. Here is the first. For Day 1, Theme-Santa’s Workshop,  I used this weeks' Friday Freebie image from Bugaboo (available HERE until July 24th). I recently learned how to add a png image to a digital background paper, and was pleasantly surprised when I was able to successfully do that again for this card.  The background paper is from a Paper Shelter digital set. I loved its Victorian color scheme and colored Deacon the Elf and his presents in shades to match/compliment that background. Stars punched from scraps of silver paper reflect the stars on the front sentiment and add some metallic sparkle to the card front.
I’m entering this card into several challenges including The Paper Shelter (This little elf’s profession is usually making gifts. Here is also gets to deliver them!) and Simon Says Wednesday Challenge (What child… of any age… doesn’t love the magic of Christmas?)

Supplies:

When I saw that the current Monday Simon Says challenge was named “Early Birds” I knew that I had to make a card using this adorable digi and matching sentiment. The little birdie is from a Beccy’s Place digital set… and his name is Wilson. (I love how Beccy names all the critters and characters in her sets. And the names she chooses are always so fun! This guy fits that name to a tee… or should I say to a soccer ball?!) When recently organizing my craft room (okay… I wasn’t organizing it. I was digging around to find an elusive something!) I stumbled upon this wire-bound calendar from 2012 and decided one of the pages would make a perfect frame for Wilson. A bit of fussy-cutting and taping and the card front was finished. All I had to do was add a tail feather to Wilson and slip him and the wonderful sentiment into place. The card offers humor, texture and an explosion of colors and patterns. What it doesn’t offer is a worm. Sorry Wilson!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including NBUS-Never Before Used Schtuff! (I’d found this calendar in a 25-cent discount bin at Goodwill years ago and had never yet used it. Now was the time!), Cute Card Thursday (there is a bit of Stitching along the bottom edge of the calendar page), and Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge (I looked up the word Fancy. It's an adjective that means “elaborate in structure or decoration.” In other words, fancy is the opposite of CAS. I think this card fits that definition pretty well, don’t you?)

Supplies:
·   Digi and Sentiment- Beccy’s Place Digital Stamp Set (Feathered Friends)
·   Background frame is pieced together from an outdated calendar to fit an A2 card front
·   Assorted cardstock (and a yellow tail feather!) from my stash

I love the carefree Digi Doodles image that decorates the front of this card. The background is a digital coloring book named Creative Haven Summer Scenes." I'd signed up for a weekly newsletter a while ago from Dover Publications and have appreciated that it regularly emails links to a half dozen coloring books and activity books, each offering 4-5 pages that are available for a short time as free downloads. This beach bar image was one of the pages available in a recent newsletter. (Sign up for the sampler newsletter to start getting your own treasures!] After copying the image, I easily used my standard Word program to reduce it in size to fit an A2 card and to change its color from black to grey so that the sweet Ava image would stand out. I also cut the sentiment into two parts to fit both the front and inside of the card. So fun!

  12. What a wonderful collection of cards Kathy, you always do such lovely work. The little elf you coloured is very cute and you did a great job choosing the colours to coordinate with the background paper. I agree it has a Victorian vibe.
I always admire your skill at upcycling Kathy, you have such a wonderful imagination. What a great idea to use part of the old calendar on your second card! I have another friend who is also very clever at using old calendars to make the most gorgeous cards. I love all the wonderful bright colours on this one, and yes, I would definitely say you've nailed the challenge brief!
Love the sentiment on your last card, what fun! You've done an awesome job colouring the image and I love that you've left the background uncoloured. Fabulous!
    Cheers,
    Beccy
