I made this first card for the Monday Simon Says challenge named “Early Birds”. When
organizing my craft room I found some pink feathers and decided that I needed
to make a flamingo card. This fun retired digi, sentiment, and patterned paper from Imagine That! worked perfectly. I’m
entering the card into several other challenges including Double D’s “Let’s Go To The Beach” (I wasn’t
sure that flamingo’s liked beaches, so did some web research and discovered that
all flamingo species like water and several prefer living near beaches
especially in the Bahamas and Caribbean. So yes… they do fit this challenge!)

I made this card in honor of my father-in-law Gene Escher, who passed
away in 2016 just a few days before his 99th birthday. He was an
amazing man, who raised Arabian horses for many years before becoming a
successful stockbroker. I loved going to rodeos with him, as he would explain
all the intricacies of the riders' techniques as we watched roping, cutting, and
barrel racing. He lived in cowboy boots most of his life and wore them up to
his final days on this earth! The cowboy
boot stamp is one of the first wood mount stamps I bought from a now-defunct
company named Comotion. It is the last of their stamps I still have in my
collection.

A friend is having a baby in a few months.
I offered to make their announcements. So am making an assortment of cards from
which they can pick their favorite. This is the first! I hand sketched the word
BABY to fit the size of the card front. After attaching it, I adding some
shading with markers and adding stitches with a blue ballpoint pen. The stamped
and colored bear plus stamped sentiment were attached and… it’s done! (I left
the inside blank so that the baby announcement can be added after he or she
joins their family!)
