July Twofer Challenge

One of my favorite monthly challenges is called "Twofer Card Challenge" which requires we use the exact same stamp, stecil or die to make two cards with distinctly different designs for two different occasions. The July Challenge is named "Butterflies." I dug through my stamps and found a butterfly in a Close To My Heart clear set that called to me!  After stamping several copies of the butterfly, some with dye ink and others with pigment ink and black embossing powder, I came up with two cards that meet the challenge requirements.

Twofer Card Challenge- #29 Butterflies

The first is a friendship card that features an accordion fold. (I’m also entering this card into the current Butterfly Challenge “A is for Accordion Fold” which provides an excellent tutorial on this easy fold!) I stamped the butterflies on scraps of lavender parchment cardstock with Memories Ink pad and colored them with alcohol markers, a permanent black marker and white gel pen. I placed the front sentiment (a freebie) vertically so I could tuck two of the butterflies right into the text! The lovely butterfly and rose paper is from a prize packet that I won in an earlier Butterfly Challenge (Thanks Mrs. A!) And the inside sentiment, from a We Are Three set, is the perfect fit to this fun card.

My second card is a thank you card. Since I love to fussy-cut and usually add lots of layers and embellishments, this card is truly CAS for me! I was inspired by a card on Pinterest (link posted below), but my butterfly was stamped on vellum, because I wanted the music score to show through the delicate wings. (This translucency is one of the reasons that I love using vellum!) Instead of stamping a sentiment, I opted to use one that I cut from a 12x12 sheet of scrapbook paper labels that includes a big of foilage.
I’m entering this card into several challenges including 1) Simon Says Monday Challenge- Early Birds. Simon notes “This week we are challenging you to add a feathered friend or maybe you could interpret the theme as an early morning sunrise, or maybe you can think of something else!” I accept the challenge of “something else”, posing that the caterpillar of this butterflies younger life didn't become the breakfast of any early birds! 2) The Sisterhood of Crafters- Ink It Up. I forgot that it can be tricky to use pigment ink on vellum. I had to reink the image several times to get good coverage. And am thankful that I had a MISTI to help me or I wouldn’t have been able to emboss this critter!) 3) Power Poppy's Creative Confetti- Rock the Mojo. Over the years I've collected a ton of card ideas via Pinterest and occasionally check there for inspiration. After creating the accordion card, I wanted to do something totally different and thought that CAS was the answer. I loved this sweet butterfly card and wanted to capture its simplicity with my card. Using vellum for the wings gave it my own personal touch!

  2. Two GORGEOUS cards Kathy and loving how distinctly different both of them are...they fit perfectly for our challenge! Your accordion fold card is so pretty and I just love the curvy sentiment on the outside where the two butterflies fit perfectly into it. And your vellum butterfly where you can see the music behind it is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing these two beauties with us at The Twofer Challenge!! :0)

  8. These are really special, Kathy! I love your accordion fold design with the beautiful pp, inside sediment and outside swirling sediment for the pretty butterflies to follow along! It's a well-executed design! And your CASlicious thank you card is a wonderful CASE of Lisa's card with your own spin on it! Well done stamping on vellum! It can be so tricky to do. I hope you are keeping well! Thank you so much for playing along in Twofer Card challenge #29! Hugs, Darnell
