Happy Trails

For my final entry into the current  Simon Says Monday Challenge “Take Me For a Ride” I used a new digi set from Beccy’s Place named “A Drovers Life.” A simple gate fold base holds an upcycled sunset scene from an old calendar and a scrap of sheet music with the old theme song from the Roy Rogers show (yep… I’m old enough to remember watching that!) The hat and boots on the inside of the card were cut from an old greeting card. I’ve had the list of “Cowboy 10 Commandments” in my files for many, many years. I tried to find the source via Google, but there are dozens of sites that provide it with no mention of the original source. So… if you know that, please let me know so I can give proper credit.
Also, I used a technique that Beccy described HERE to used my plain ol' Word program picture editing tools to make the silhouette resemble a pencil drawing. Super fast and easy and I love the rustic effect. (Thanks Beccy!)

A Perfect Time to Craft 2020-Anything Goes- July Challenge #7-2020

There are so many Christmas in July challenges this week, that I wanted to create a card I could enter. This cute digi from Lemon Shortbread named “Dreaming of Christmas” is my first of the many Christmas cards I’ll be making this month!) I colored the image (giving the little guy a lumberjack plaid shirt!), then trimmed a portion of the inside of the water globe away so that the snowflake background paper can show through. I also sketched small snowflakes onto the trees with a white gel pen and added a sparkly silver star on the top of each before topping the globe with circle of acetate (to add a bit of realism.) After adding sentiments, I sprinkled the front and inside of the card with a blizzard of tiny die-cut snowflakes. Ahhh… so magical!!

Supplies:
·   Digi- Lemon Shortbread (Dreaming of Christmas)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
·   Front Sentiment- “Believe” from Beccy’s Place Digi set (The Big Guy)
·   Inside sentiment- Birdscards Freebie (Wishing You a Magical Christmas)
·   Assorted background papers and scrap of acetate from my stash
·  Cotton upcycled from a pill bottle
·  Cheery Lynn Designs Die (C146 Snowflakes- available at several shops on the web)

I had so much fun coloring this image named Yankee Doodle from Cute As A Button Stamps.  I don't know if I have the color of his uniform correct, but was trying to go with a sepia-toned theme to add a rustic look. Nailed that task but I just realized that I colored the stripes incorrectly. The bottom ones should match… and they don’t. Before I send this out next year, I'll create another white stripe on the bottom left side of this flag with a scrap of cardstock. Since the flag is unfurling in the wind, I think that will work. At least I hope so!

  6. Hahaha! Love the cowboy card, those ten commandments are fabulous! Your welcome to the tip about the Word program... I'm a big fan of how quick and easy it is to change up your digital images. Love the sunset background and the beautifully finished interior of your card Kathy.
Your second card is super sweet. It wasn't until I had a closer look that I realised he's actually a little fairy! You did a wonderful job colouring the image, I'm a big fan of that plaid shirt he's wearing. You also did a great job removing the interior of the globe to reveal the snowflake background... great idea!
I never even noticed the stripes on the flag Kathy, I don't think it's overly obvious, but I do like your idea for a fix. Cute image and you've once again done an awesome job with the colouring!
    Cheers,
    Beccy

  7. Great collection of cards!! Your Christmas is adorable! Cutting out part of the globe so the background shows through really makes it look like you can see right through the snow globe! Thanks for playing with Di's Digi Designs.
