Tomorrow is the last day to enter cards in the July Coffee
Loving Paper Crafters/Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge. I have two cards I
need to enter by then… and here is the first one. It features one of my
favorite digis from Beccy’s Place. I love coloring it… and it also always makes
me crave a yummy coffee drink! I used a non-traditional color scheme for this
card, which is based on a sheet of pretty snowflake vellum I recently picked up
a Hobby Lobby. The other items are all from my stash! (The inside sentiment is embellished
totally with scraps that remained after the card front was finished. I like how
this builds a bit of symmetry on my cards, plus they make me think of my sweet mom.
She called pretty little scraps “Snipples” and every time I use them, I feel her
smiling down from above!)
An added note- Let it snow is a favorite song since we moved to Wisconsin where the snow falls straight to the ground... and the flakes are huge! The state we moved from was always windy, so I'd never seen snow actually "fall". Instead, it blew across the ground and piled up against anything that blocked its path. There were times we couldn't use our snowblower until my sweet hubby first shoveled the 6-foot-high snow drift that buried our garage door.... where the snowblower lived!! We don't miss that kind of snow at all!)

While downsizing, I’ve
uncovered several boxes of items I’ve collected over the years. Several cards that
I found in a thrift store feature an unusual nativity cut from what I thought
was a thin layer of wood that was now cracked and falling apart. The back of
the cards noted that they were from a missions project in the Caribbean. (I did
some research and found that the project was no longer in business; however, in
the process, I learned that the images on the card were not made with wood, but
with a product named Banana Bark.) I gently tore the pieces from the three
cards and used them to create one complete Nativity. The background and other
items I used on my card are all from my stash!
Supplies:
·
Pieces of Banana Bark, and inside sentiment are upcycled from thrift store cards.

This card features a
beautiful Moondrea Designs digi named Hydrangeas Maiden. I colored her face and
hair, then used a Martha Stewart flower punch that I’ve had in my stash for
several years. I punched white and pink petals from lightweight copy paper and
adhered them with a Zig 2-Way Glue and a stylus pen. I adhered the finished
beauty to a card front that has delicate floral images. The final touch was to
add highlights to the flowers, leaves, and eyes with a white gel pen.
Note- One reason I love creating with digis is that the images can be resized as needed. For this card, I knew I wanted to use the punch to add texture to the card. So, I cropped/enlarged just the maiden's head and face to fill the card front. Then the punched flowers fit beautifully!

ReplyDeleteThanks for coming to play in the Snippets Playground with your first card in this post. Love the front of the card and how you used snippets from it to create the inside.

What a beautiful trio of cards, once more, Kathy
ReplyDeleteThe first Christmas card is lovely - especially the inside
I love the fact that your second card with the banana bark is a recycled result from three cards
The final digi image one is fabulous - love the beautiful hydrangeas in her hair.
Blessings

Lovely your cards, Kathy! Beautifully done! Thanks for linking up with the Christmas in July {BYSHC} Linky Party and the {BYSHC} Sketch 59!
ReplyDeleteKathy, all your cards are lovely. You'll certainly be ready for Christmas. But the one you entered over at Word Art Wednesday is so very cool and eye catching! I instantly noticed that it was different, and at first I thought it was an upcycled Christmas card. How cool that it was made in the Caribbean with banana bark! It does look just like wood. Very unique and beautiful! I'm glad you were able to salvage it. Someone will love getting this! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Word Art Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards!
ReplyDeleteYou've been a busy crafter again, Kathy. Good for you, and I'll be hoping you get a big win.
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us for the Caffeinated Christmas Card Challenge!
These are all wonderful! Thanks so much for joining us at the CCCC!
ReplyDeletebanana bark - how interesting
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty card Kathy. The image is beautiful but the die cut flowers really make it extra special. Thanks for sharing with us at Passion for Markers for Marie's 'birthday' challenge. Hugs, Denise x
ReplyDeleteA warm cozy card for Christmas. I'm guessing that Let it Snow is your favorite song, but would love to know why. Thanks for sharing your card with us at Time Out Challenges.
ReplyDeleteCarol, Thanks for asking why this is a favorite song. I don't think I did that on any of my entrees, I'll do that from now on... and will also go back and add it to my earlier entries! (Let it snow is a favorite song since we moved to Wisconsin where the snow falls straight to the ground... and the flakes are huge! The state we moved from was always windy, so I'd never seen snow actually "fall". Instead it blew across the ground and piled up against anything in ran up against. There were times that my hubby couldn't use our snowblower until he dug out the garage door so that he could get to the snowblower!!)
DeleteLOL! I am from a very snowy place in Canada and live in a relatively snowy place in Canada... I love the first snowfall, but nothing more LOL! Thanks for playing along with us at Time Out Challenges!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning card. The true meaning of Christmas. Thanks for sharing at Festive Fridays.
ReplyDeleteA really lovely snippets card Kathy! We don't often see snow where we live in England - needless to say, when it does snow the place just grinds to a halt!
