I am honored to have
served as a Guest Designer for Beccy Muir at Beccy’s Place and am now one of
her “Contributors” (which means that she provides me with digis or clear stamp
sets several times a year and I get to create cards or other items with them!) It is always fun to see the images Beccy
invites me to use. This time, the digi
and sentiments are all from a just-released set named “Hocus Pocus.”
Since I just had a small setback in my
recovery from hip replacement, I didn’t have the energy-or a clear mind- to develop
the write-ups for my posts. Instead, I am offering the wonderful descriptions that
Beccy provided on her blog. (She is an artist and also is a fine writer!)
Here are Beccy’s comments, “Kathy has been hard at work creating some truly
magical cards with the new Hocus Pocus set of digital stamps. Her first card features a tree
stump that has become home to one comfy, old toad! Kathy coloured the eyes
separately to give them more dimension and make them the focal point of the
design... and check out that swirling pipe smoke!” (Note from Kathy- I used Kraft paper for printing the toad and a free
hollow log template I found on the web. I used this template with another of Beccy’s Digi sets back in
2018. You can see it HERE.) I’m entering this card into several challenges including Allsorts: Summer (This
is a smart old toad, because he knows that a hollow log is cool resting place.
However, the drug prevention educator in me wants to give him a bit of info on
the dangers of tobacco use!)

Beccy’s comments-“Kathy's
second creation is a circle easel card decorated with a very wise, slightly
grumpy, owl! She used one of the sentiments from the set to make an anchor for
the card front, which means it will also be seen when the card is open for
display.” (Note from Kathy- I
printed the owl on Kraft paper and as with the toad, did some extra detail work on his
eyes to help add some depth and intensity!)

I was so happy last month
when Power Poppy started offering challenges again. The June one featured
Spring flowers. The July one was a little more challenging, as our finished
item is to feature something that is glass. I dug through my Power Poppy stamps
and digis and decided to turn one of Marcella’s beautiful winter digis into a
snow globe card. Since I have a hard time getting nice cuts with dies on
acetate, I used a circle template and fine-line black marker to trace the
desired size circle onto a scrap of acetate, which I then fussy-cut with my favorite
precision scissors. I made the base for the globe with a scrap of Kraft paper, lightly
sketching woodgrain with a pencil before adding shading with a marker and
highlights with a white colored pencil. A white gel pen plus Stickles glitter
glue added some sparkle to the card. (I attempted the capture the beautiful
sparkle of the snowflakes and blankets of snow on the trees, roofs, and ground
in a closeup photo, but it doesn’t do them justice.)
I’m entering this card into several challenges
including wecraftcards where the challenge was to pick a Christmas song or songs with a color in the title and make a card to match (the snowy scene in my card reflects “White Christmas”, the sky reflects “Blue Christmas”), Incy Wincy Designs: Love, Sweet Love (Christmas
is only possible because of the deep love of a gracious God who left Heaven just for us!), Simon Says Wednesday: For a Child (the
Child born on Christmas so many years ago brought a promise of peace to God’s Children.)
