myasperations 7-17-22

The Double D’s Challenge has been a favorite of mine for several years… and I was excited that the inspiration photo for the new theme- Creatures Under/In the Sea, allowed me to use an adorable digi from Digi Doodles that I just added to my collection.  I printed the digis onto white cardstock, trimmed them into rectangles to fit onto a Z-Fold Card base, and adhered them to rectangles of watery patterned paper. Using the wavy pattern from the background paper as my guide, I lightly sketched the pattern onto the white cardstock, behind the digis, colored with watercolor pencils and a damp paintbrush. I added texture and a little sparkle to the little jellyfish by cutting thin slits in the cardstock-under her “chin” and also along the ends of her frills-slipping a small bundle of the fine Easter straw through the slits and taping the ends down on the underside. (The end result is a bit messier looking than I had planned, but then I have a feeling the jellyfish frills can get tied into knots occasionally with all that wave action!)

I was so happy last month when Power Poppy started offering challenges again. The June one featured Spring flowers. The July one was a little more challenging, as our finished item is to feature something that is glass. I dug through my Power Poppy stamps and digis and decided to create a 4th of July card with yummy cupcakes under a pretty glass dome. I wanted the glass dome to look transparent, so I lay a sheet of decorated acetate over the printed digi and traced around the dome shape with a fine-line black pen. I used a pencil to lightly sketch the lines for the plaid pattern atop the cupcake stack, colored in the images, the used a few blue markers to fill in the plaid background. A white gel pen plus assorted Stickles glue pens added some sparkle and pop to the card.
