It’s time to… skate?!

It’s Friday and time for the Colour Crazy Challenge. This challenge is “Anything Goes” but adds one requirement- the creation needs to include coloring in “any colouring medium you like, onto any project you like, and in any colours you like.” I’ve never outgrown my love for coloring… which is why making cards is stress therapy for me!!
This week’s sponsor is Digi Doodle Studios and my card features a sweet image from Digi Doodle Studios named Sammi Skater Bear. I colored the little cutie, fussy-cut and positioned him on an A2 sized card. I created a background on the card front with a scrap of scrapbook paper that provides an appropriate sentiment! The “ice” is created with a scrap of vellum upon which I scratched swirls with the tip of my scissors. A fluttering of die-cut snowflakes decorate card, and a little ball of fluff tops off his winter cap. (The fact that he is sitting on the ice vs. skating on it makes me smile because that was my usual placement when I skated as a child!)

Supplies:
·   Digi- Digi Doodle Studios (Sammi Skater Bear)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

The current Challenge at Simon Says Wednesday is titled “No Stamps Allowed.” When considering card possibilities, I remembered making gem butterflies with misc. odd shaped gems for a card last month and decided to create more of them, this time to adhere to the front of an upcycled Thank You note card. I wanted to give the card a Victorian feeling, and found a square of this lovely patterned paper in my stash that worked beautifull. The final touch was to add gold photo corners to compliment the notecards metallic gold.
Am entering this card into several challenges including the Butterfly Challenge (includes one color- Damson and two themes-Diamante and Butterfly.)
PS A commenter asked how I made the butterfly bodies. I'll share my response to her here for those who might be interested-  They were made with small scraps of paper. It is tedious but did work (after a few attempts!) In the past I've cut the bodies with a small scrap of cardstock, then made the antennae separately by tying a piece of thin black cord/thread into a knot, and gluing it atop the body. The antennae often didn't "behave" but a touch of glossy accents helped to hold them in place.
Supplies:
·   Upcycled Thank You note card front
·   Assorted cardstock, lacy patterned papers, and teardrop rhinestones from my stash
·   Silver photo corners available from several sources on the web (WXJ13 13 Sheets 13 Colors Photo Mounting Corners)

Power Poppy’s current challenge is named Color It… and invites us to create a colored image on colored cardstock. I used sentiments from a Power Poppy digital set and autumn images (leaf and acorn) from a Tim Holtz clear set stamped and embossed in black on kraft brown paper. I decided to color the leaf with watercolor pencils to give it the waxy texture of a real leaf. A few dark colors of decorate chalks added shading to the image.  Although I rarely make collage cards, I felt that the colored images worked well when mixed in with washi tape, sheer ribbon and bright argyle patterned scrapbook border strip in fall colors.  I’m not sure… but I think it turned out okay?
Supplies:
·   Leaf Stamp- from Tim Holtz Cling Mount stamp set (Autumn Blueprint)
·   Colored with Aquarelle Watercolor pencils and decorative chalks
·   Front and inside Sentiments from Power Poppy’s digi set (Autumns Opulence)
·   Assorted cardstock, patterned border, sheer sage green ribbon, brown photo corners and washi tape from my stash
·   Black pigment ink and embossing powder from my stash

  2. Great collection of cards! The first one is super cute with that little bear. And I LOVE those gem butterflies!! I have some teardrop shaped jewels that I've been trying to figure out what to do with. I'll have to try making some of these beauties! What do you use for the bodies/antennae? Thanks for playing with Di's Digi Designs.

    1. Thanks for your sweet comments. And also for your question. Sorry that I forgot to add that info to the post! This time I made the butterfly bodies with small scraps of paper. It is tedious, but did work (after a few tries.) I know in the past I have cut just the bodies with a small scrap of cardstock, the made the antennae separately by tying a piece of thin black cord/thread into a knot, and gluing it atop the body. If the antennae didn't behave, I added a touch of glossy accents to keep them in place.
