Where has August gone?!

I love all the back to school challenges going on right now. For this card I used a freebie digital set named, appropriately "Back to School" from Victorine Originals Stamps  (find it here- victorine-originals.myshopify.com)
I turned the sentiment into a leather patch for my jeans pocket by sponging it with a few shades of brown ink then adding some shading on the edges and a few highlights with a white pencil. After attaching it to the pocket, made with a scrap of gift wrap, I added stitching with a white gel pen (lighting smudging it to show some "wear") before adding a few gold stud brads on the pocket. Slid the many school items (all from the set) into the pocket, adhered them in place and yay… a wonderful card for someone to enjoy! Am entering this card into the current school themed challenge at SumMoreFun (which highlights Victorine Originals stamps) plus several other back to school challenges.

The current challenge at The Paper Shelter requires the use of Punches/Dies. For this card I used a window die (that I just won in a challenge!) and a hello die (that I upcycled from a card.) I've wanted to use the Paper Shelter  sweet image named "Comfy at Home" that a friend gave me via a gift card last Christmas (Thanks, Linda!)  I colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers, adding details with a white gel pen, then  attaching her to the card front with foam squares to add a little depth. (I provided a close up so that you can see the white gel pen details in the blanket plus lace on chair doily and white paws on kitty.)

Love this fun alien critter! The digi is from Little Scraps of Heaven, it's called "You're Out Of This World" (part of a 4 piece set that is available from www.lshdigidesigns.com). The sentiment is from an 8 piece digi set from Beccy's Place also called "Out of this World"(available at beccysplace.com). If you follow my blog, you know that I love upcycling. For this care I upcycled the royal blue and lime green papers from old cards, and the spaceship is made from the liner of a Folgers coffee can. (It is not aluminum, it's plastic. So is easy to cut with no risk of getting cut! Plus, when I tried to punch out the little circles, they wouldn't punch out. I decided that I liked the debossed impression better than if the circle punch had actually cut through the silver. Provided a close up so you can see the neato mistake!

I have always loved the sweet images at Whimsie Doodles, and wish I had purchased more of them before the business closed earlier this year. This is a favorite, named "Sand Dollar Mermaid." I paired her with some wonderful vellum that I found at our new Hobby Lobby store (thought it resembled mermaid scales) and used one of my newest purchases, gold Nuvo drops on the little cuties scales to make them shimmer and glow a bit. I also tried to shade the hair to give it a little bit of a shimmer and glow look, to match the vellum and to well… look magically mermaidy! (I provided a closeup so you can see these details.) The sentiments (front and inside) are from a 6 piece Bugaboo digi set named "Under the Sea" (available from bugaboostamps.com).

Really love that one with the school supplies in the pocket. Your little alien in his space ship is perfect for our Double D Moon and Stars challenge, and so darn cute! Clever to use the coffee can liner. Thanks for playing along with us!
