Treasures from my Craft Room

I wanted to make another card to enter into the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge named "Distress It" but that isn't a style that is comfortable to me. So… I decided to try just adding a little distressing to an item instead of going all out. I started by embossing a vintage PSX wood mount stamp named "Floral Wreath #K-413" (one of the first I ever purchased back in the 90's), coloring and then fussy cutting it. I wrote the sentiment in simple dot lettering onto a glossy white die cut tag. While the ink was still wet, I gently wiped a tissue across the lettering, dragging a bit of ink across the label. I sketch some scallops along the die cut edging and repeated the process of dragging the ink. The lightly dabbed the soiled tissue randomly across the tag. When finished, I taped the embossed image on the top of the label, and then attached them to the front of a die cut gift box.

I love origami but find that the patterns are often complicated. This one isn't and I LOVE the results. (You can find the pattern here delyscram.com/2012/04/05/dress-card) I was thinking of how much my mom would love this card as I was making it. The patterned paper and the heart charm would have made her smile.

I've been saving a package of Barbie stickers for something special… and this card fits that requirement.  I will be sending it to a friends little 4-year old named Lucy for Christmas this year. The color scheme was used to match the Christmas Crafts All Year Round Challenge.  I added many different snowflakes with borders of yellow, orange and red from my ever growing stash of all things Christmas! The sentiment is from Lili of the Valley sentiment digi set named "Christmas Wishes."

I wanted to make a card to enter into Power Poppy's new challenge to make a card that reflects your birthstone. I love the rich dark shades of red in a garnet and wasn't quite sure how to capture that until I found a scrap of burgundy velvet in remembered doing velvet stamping a few decades ago. Found the instructions here instructables.com/id/Emboss-Velvet-with-Rubber-Stamps-and-a-Household-I and went looking for a bold stamp. Discovered that I don't have many but did find this old wood mount stamp from Azadi Erles. With a little practice, was able to make this card. I don't know who makes the holly sprig as I  pulled it from the wood mount many years ago to simplify its use.
