Fun in the Craft Room

I've spent the last few days happily stamping away in my craft room, so have lots of cards to share. This is my second post today… and these will probably be one more before I go to bed! Wanted to make another card for the Double D "Moon and Stars" Challenge so knew that I had to use a digi set from Beccy's Place called "Out of this World"(available at beccysplace.com). The background paper is from Hobby Lobby, and I had fun using a Fiskars star punch that I got for 80% off at JoAnne's a few weeks ago. (Gotta love coupons!)

Wanted to make another school themed card, this one for a teen. Thought I'd make a card with quirky feeling, so used scrapbook paper with funny fish because, well… fish also go to schools! Highlighted one of the unique fish with a oval cut from vellum, and added a sentiment from one of Beccy's Place digi sets named "Smooth Seas." The inside sentiment is computer generated with a fun font named AR Darling. I added a paper scrap and several stickers to dress up the inside of the card. Am entering this card into several challenges including Power Poppy that requires the use of three school items on the card. My three items are 1) yellow file folder (made into A2 sized card), 2) assorted stickers and 3) transparent tape (used to attach the vellum to the patterned paper.) Easy Peasy!

About 8 years ago I was introduced to on-line card challenges through a Papercrafts Catalog blog. When it closed down about six years ago, one of the people on the forum offered to develop/host a new forum named wecraftcards. I've learned so many things from the neat group of people that I've met there. We are now a small group, but still take turns hosting twice a week challenges. One of the last challenges was to make a Fun Fold Card. Here is my card (using this video- youtube.com/watch?v=JKcOb6PJra4) I used a freebie image that I got from StampAnnieThings FB page for a card swap. Will be sending it off to a stamper in MD later this week. And am waiting to get a card with this image from someone from in US… or possibly on the other side of the globe… by the end of the month. So fun! The sentiment is a freebie from Paper Smootches (actually, a combination of two freebie sentiments!)

The fold was so easy, that I used it to make another card, this one using an adorable digi named "Little Mermaid" from Maria Mendel Illustrations. She is one of the cutest mermaids and is so fun to color. I've provided a close up so you can see all the wonderful details. (If you want your own copy of this cute digi at www.etsy.com/shop/MMedelIllustrations  It is available right now for 40% off- just $1.77) I used more of the gorgeous vellum that I purchased last week at Hobby Lobby that made me think of mermaid scales. The sentiment on the front is a freebie from desertdiva-hannelie.blogspot.com. The inside sentiment is from a  Bugaboo digi set named "Under the Sea" (available from bugaboostamps.com).

  1. Looks like you had a fabulous time in your craft room Kathy, your cards are awesome! I love the glittery stars on the first one, and the colour scheme is wonderful... I particularly like that soft green.
The funky collection of fish on the next card is fantastic, I love the patterns and colours. The vellum overlay with the circle cut out is a great way to create a focal point and I like that you've decorated the inside of the card with stickers too.
The red, white and blue colour scheme on your third card is very patriotic Kathy, and the image is fabulous. You did a really good job with the colouring, I especially like the highlights in her hair.
Your final card for this post is wonderful, that little mermaid sure is cute. I remember that terrific background paper from another card you made, and I agree that it looks like scales.
    Fabulous cards Kathy!
    Cheers,
    Beccy
