Winter, Fall, Birthdays and Infinity!

Another card made with the digi set "Seasonal windows" from Beccy's Place. This winter image was printed off on Kraft cardstock. I kept the coloring to a minimum, just adding a little brown marker to the branch. Drew some pine branches across the upper right corner then added a little cardinal image that I colored with Tombow markers. I also printed just the window section off on white cardstock. Colored the candle glow and background with chalks then cut it out. Once again, I used an Exacto knife to remove the window panes and mounted a scrap of acetate on the inside. Added a little sprig of holly to the base of the candle, then adhered that section behind the acetate with mounting tape to add depth. The sentiment is from the digi set, framed it with a few sprigs of holly to pull a little color to the bottom of the page (and to allow me to enter the card into a Christmas Challenge that was to include "leaves.") The final touch was adding "snow". (Used a white gel pen to color in the snow on the winder sill and panes, plus scattered a bit on the branches. When that was dry I added glitter with a Tombow 2-Way Glue Pen. This card made my hubby say, “WOW!” And I agree. It is a stunner! (Thanks, Beccy, for providing your artistic talent to make it possible!)

This CAS card is made with a Tiddly Inks digi image named “Wryn’s Leaves.” Colored with Alcohol markers, the card went together quickly. Might add a sentiment later for the appropriate reason, birthday, thinking of you, etc. For now, I like it the way it is. Can’t you just hear the crunch and snap of those leaves? And the giggles? There are always giggles when you play in leaves!

The current CAS-ual Friday’s Challenge is to CASE a Girl Friday’s (DT) Card. My second entry is of a wonderful balloon card made by Alanna. I loved how the band of B&W along the left edge set off the colorful balloons. I decided to make the card even more colorful by using primary colors instead of pastels. LOVE the result! And… it was pretty quick and easy to make. (So I will be making more of these!)

This card, for last Monday’s WeCraftCards challenge WAS  a real challenge! Not making it… but psyching myself up to make it! I'm finding that I don't like "messy" techniques where I get ink all over my fingers... and sometimes my desk! Finally decided to just jump in. Grabbed a piece of glossy cardstock because I have so much of that and seldom use it. Started sponging on lime green, yellow, deep rose and rusty orange. Then added navy blue and black. At that point I thought all that I had made was an ugly mess! But when I spritzed it with water the galaxy started to appear. Dabbed the card with a baby wipe and the colors started to emerge. They grew prettier as the card dried. And when I tapped white acrylic paint onto the paper, the magic really happened. Added a few stars with white gel pen and really like the results! (I did discover that the glossy paper I’d grabbed was actually photo paper. And it seemed to hold the dark colors more than regular glossy paper would do. So I plan to try this again with glossy and also watercolor paper. Especially because when I showed the final work to my hubby his response was, "You made this?!" He is usually complimentary of my cards, but has never said that before. So, I want to wow him again!)
My finished card just took half of the sheet. I'd fussy cut this fun image of Buzz Lightyear from a coloring book cover a while ago and just needed a place to showcase him. This is it! The inside sentiment is printed on my computer, and the cute little alien stickers are a dollar store find!
And, since a galaxy holds stars- in this case several made with a white gel pen- I can also enter the card into Simon Says “Written in the Stars” challenge. To infinity and beyond!

  6. All your cards are fantastic! I love those colorful balloons and the cute little girl in the leaf pile. And your window is a wonderful cozy setting with the perfectly drawn pine boughs. You'd think they might be easy to draw, but I could probably mess them up. Love the snow in the corners of the window panes. Thanks bunches for sharing in our Glitter challenge at Double D!

  14. I agree with your husband Kathy, wow! The window card is made is gorgeous, what a great technique and one I think I will have to try myself. The results are amazing.
The second card you made is very cute, and the colouring is awesome. I really like the CAS style too, all the white space really accentuates the gorgeous autumn colours in the leaves.
Your balloon card is so colourful and fun, I really like this one. The heart balloons are fabulous and I love that you coloured them in nice, rich primaries. I like the addition of the sequins for a little bit of sparkle.
Your galaxy background is fabulous! You did a great job mixing all those colours, and even though it creates quite a mess on your desk and fingers, the results are worth it. Some little child is going to love getting that in the mail!
    Awesome collection of cards Kathy.
    Cheers,
    Beccy
