Summer Friends

It's Wednesday! So time for another challenge at Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge Blog where challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out! The sponsor this week is Oddball Art and I used their fun image named "Caroline & Petey." I colored the cute pair with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. The sentiments are computer generated and the cloudy sky was created with chalks, a makeup sponge and a template cut from a paper scrap. I sketched the little butterflies [but was a little heavy handed with the black marker. The poor critters can hardly flutter!]

Fabrika Fantasy Challenge- #32 Summer

For my DT card this week with Imagine That Digi Stamps I used a sweet image and sentiment from a  digi set named Flamingo Beach. [You can find them HERE]. Plus, designer/owner of Imagine That, Kris Breach, provides her DTs with a coupon code that allows any friends a discount on their next digi order. If you stop by the shop I know that you'll find lots of digis that you'll want to add to your collection.
I colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen, fussy cut and set her aside. The background base is cloudy sky scrapbook paper. I tore the edges of a few scraps of wave scrapbook paper to create an "ocean", and layered strips of torn parchment paper scraps to create the sandy beach. The final fun touch was to cut a few slits into the image around the floaty ring and along the edge of her wings. Slid a few pretty pink feathers into the slits and taped them on the backside of the image to hold them in place. When finished, I attached the beach Diva to the front of the card with foam tape. I printed the inside sentiment, also from the digi set, on kraft paper which helped the little bits of coloring really pop. So fun.

Do-Al[l] Creative- On the Wave

I just finished a few really long weeks at work providing training and working on a grant [put in 110 hours in the last 10 days… so I am tired.] Was fun to have time to play in my craft room today. I started with a sweet image from one of my favorite sets from Bugaboo named "Unicorn Set." I colored the little cutie with Aquarelle Watercolor pencils and a Dove blender pen. When dry, I used a Tombow 2-Way Glue pen to adhere a thick dusting of microfine glitter to add some sparkling magic. Printed the rainbow/clouds image that come in the digi set onto the top half of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of white cardstock. [I was worried that I'd position it too low or high… instead it was too far to the left. Ha!  However, when I cut the sheet in half and folded it into an A2 sized card, I liked that the image was off-center. Such a happy mistake!] Colored the rainbow with the watercolor pencils, then decided that I wanted to mute them a bit so they wouldn't overwhelm the star of the show Unicorn. Vellum to the rescue! The sentiment is computer generated using a fun font names Curlz MT.

Cute As A Button-#46 Anything Goes [Twist- no background paper]

My final card features a patriotic theme in honor of the USA's Fourth of July celebrations. I used an old, old, old Stampin' Up set [I think it was one of the first stamp sets that I bought back in the late 90's]. Stamped the flag onto kraft paper, colored it with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. Stamped the sentiment onto kraft paper and added a bit of white gel pen to highlight the letters. Trimmed the sentiment section with decorative scissors and lightly taped it to the card front. Trimmed the flag image, then created the impression of a slight "flutter" by gently rolling the ends of the flag under and adding a slight indentation down the middle of the flag. Added two strips of foam tape between the edges and the center of the flag to push two ridges upward when the flag is taped to the sentiment section. [see closeup side photo]. Attach the flag and slide a scrap of checkered paper behind the flag/sentiment section, adhering it in place. Tie a strip of fabric around the card fold, fraying the edges to add some texture and tying a loose knot on the front of the card. A computer generated sentiment on the inside finishes the colorful, but fairly quick and easy card.
