Christmas in July- Day 3&4

I’m loving making cards for the Bugaboo “Christmas in July” celebration.  Here is my entry for Day 3- ABC (Anything But a Card) Challenge with movie inspiration “Santa Clause is coming to Town.” Instead of featuring Santa… I wanted to focus on the true Santa Claus; a Christian Bishop named “St. Nicholas.” I did a bit of research and found a wonderful free digital St. Nicholas HERE. (This wonderful site has tons of St Nick items including ornaments, coloring sheets, historical info, stories and more.) I printed the ornament onto white cardstock, added a few highlights and shading with grey markers and white gel pen before fussy cutting the wonderful little keepsake. I’d picked up a dozen wonderful snowflake ornaments a few years ago at Goodwill for a quarter each and used it as a base, attaching the front and back images to the ornament, matching the edges. I attached the finished ornament onto a computer-generated story about the Real Santa Clause that I clipped from a Salvation Army newsletter years ago.  (I’ll be making more of these to give as gifts this year. I love how it turned out.)

And here is my entry for Day 4: Bingo Challenge that is inspired by the Christmas movie “Elf.”  My card includes the items on the BINGO diagonal row from the lower left: Patterned Paper, Bugaboo image, and Brads.)  I used the Bugaboo digi named “Elk Peeker”, colored with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. The circle sentiment on the front of the card and elf shoes are the inside are both freebies from Birdscards that you can find HERE. The inside sentiment is computer generated. I turned the gold brads into jingle bells by drawing a small x on each brad with a permanent fine line black Sharpie marker, adding a small dot on the ends of the x’s. (You can see these details in the closeup photo.) Took a little work, but I do think that they are a fun addition.

Stepping away from Christmas cards for a bit, I wanted to make  a card to enter into the current Tiddly Ink challenge named “Under the Sea.” So, I printed off this cute Tiddly digi and got to creatin’! (This image was provided free to participants in their blog challenge this past April. However, you can purchase the two cuties as part of a set HERE.) I wanted to make a birthday card that really sparkles (to be able to enter it in the current Double D Challenge) so pulled out my file of upcycled Christmas cards and picked two that had potential. Decided to use the one with the square center, since it would work perfectly to make a tunnel card (find the tutorial HERE.) The sentiments are computer-generated. When putting the card together I realized that there would be no room on the inside for signing the card. So… I cut an oval from swirly vellum and layered it behind the sentiment. TaDa! Problem solved!  I then cut a similar oval that I used on the front of the card to help it reflect the inside theme. The front also features the square from the upcycled Christmas card that I removed to make the inside Tunnel feature. (Look up the word “Resourceful” in the dictionary and you might just see my picture there! Ha!)
