Christmas in July- Day 1

I'd only been blogging a few months when Bugaboo celebrated their 2017 Christmas in July event. It was so much fun! So I was happy to participate again in 2018. And now in 2019 I spent the afternoon happily making Christmas cards in my little craft room.

Here is the first. For Day 1, we were to select our favorite movie from a few offered and develop a card that fits that movies theme. I selected “A Charlie Brown Christmas” because I love that it includes the true meaning of Christmas in Linus’ speech. My card features an image from a Beccy’s Place digi set named “A Nativity.” (You can find it HERE.) I colored Baby Jesus on the image with chalks and layered a piece of decorated vellum atop the colored image. Added a free sentiment from Victorine Originals (you can find it HERE. Select “digital” in the drop-down bar for “mounting type.”) The inside sentiment is a retired one from Denami Designs. The final touch was to add tiny red rhinestone holly berries on the front and inside vellum.

The current challenge at wecraftcards Forum is called “Shake It.” I tried something a little different when making this shaker card. Instead of using acetate to contain the sequins within the enclosed window, I used a scrap of one of my mom’s old nylon hair scarves. She would have LOVED seeing it used in this way. And she would have loved coloring this sweet image from A Day for Daisies named "Hello Baby Giraffe." (You can buy the image HERE but… you’d better hurry. The shop will be closing forever on July 31st so right now artist/owner Tammy is offering 20% off on any purchases. I’ll miss her sweet and often whimsical images.)
I colored with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. The sentiments are all chipboard items from my scrapbook stash. Am entering this card into several challenges including Double D’s (inspired by the mood photo to make it sparkle!)

  13. I love the way you created your Nativity card Kathy, what a clever idea to use the vellum. The halo looks beautiful as do all the red "berries" you scattered around.
How cute is that giraffe??? What a great facial expression. I was interested to read that you used a nylon scarf instead of acetate to create your shaker card, what a fabulous idea! You're always so good at thinking outside the box Kathy, well done!
    Cheers,
