Beatlemania II

Last week (wecraftcards.com/forum hosted a Spring Crop named Beatlemania. The eight challenges were built around Beatles songs. It was a really great chance to try some new techniques and used some new stamps! I've spent the last week stamping up a storm, so will be showcasing my entries over several posts. This is the second.

Yellow Submarine This challenge was to make a card or a tag depicting something you might see- Real, Fictional, or Folklore- through the window of a yellow submarine. I used the cute mermaid and sentiments from the Bugaboo digi set named 'Under The Sea" and a scrapbooking circle template.  I really like the look of the porthole but it was tedious to make. Will need to refine the process when I try this again.

Come Together- The requirement for this challenge was to make a gate fold card so that the paper comes together in the center. I used a great image and sentiments from a Beccy's Place digi set named "Prehistoric Party" to make this card. I don't know what the card fold is called, but I have a handmade template that has been in my supplies since 1997. (It's amazing what you find when you clean and organize!!) I love this chubby little critter!

Penny Lane- For this challenge, we were to make a penny slider card. They sound difficult, but really are quite simple. If you don't know how to make them, I found this tutorial to be very helpful- http://www.newtonsnookblog.com/2013/10/penny-slider-card-tutorial.html
Last month I won a stamp set last month from a company named SumMoreFun. Have been waiting for a chance to use it and this challenge was PERFECT! Used a free digi image that I found via google as my background that was a perfect match for the SumMoreFun mood board  (https://www.publicdomainpictures.net) adhered it to thick cardstock to add more strength then sketched and cut the crooked penny slider path. Stamped the little hamster ball onto vellum. Stamped the hamsters on white cardstock, colored them then fussy cut the small one and taped him inside of the hamster ball. Followed the instructions on the tutorial to put the card together. Then finished it off with the sentiment that is totally me (and my weird sense of humor.) When I watched the little hamster spin round and round as he shot down the penny slider, I decided that it would fit into the current Power Poppy challenge.
I added a few close-ups so you can see some of the details. The little paw prints on the inside of the card were added using a small roller wheel that I picked up at the local Good Will store. I actually got 6 of them in a package of birthday treat bag items. So fun!

Wanted to enter another card into the current Simon Says Wednesday and Di's Digi Challenges- Weddings/Anniversaries. This one is made with embossed vellum and rose stickers. The Happily Ever After tag is from my scrapbook stash. It went together pretty quickly and looks lovely.

  6. What a fun challenge Kathy! I love your take on "Yellow Submarine", she's a cute little mermaid and framing her with the porthole was great idea.
Your gate fold card looks terrific, you've done a really good job colouring the dinosaur and coordinating papers for the background. Love the way you've added the sentiment to make it look like she's holding a banner.
The hamster card is awesome! I love the idea of the ball bouncing down the stack of books, although I'm sure the hamster wouldn't be too thrilled.
Your last card for today is extra pretty, I really like the look of the embossed vellum over the heart shape. The rose stickers complete your project perfectly. Well done Kathy.
    Cheers,
    Beccy

  16. I came over here because of your amazing hamster card but wow, your cards are all so creative and fun. The slider element with the little hamster tumbling down in his hamster ball just makes me laugh! I also LOVE that porthole with the little mermaid, and the gatefold dino card. Then...you go in a whole different direction with that gorgeous embossed vellum card. Wish I could follow by email so I don't miss a post but I'll just have to check by occasionally for some crafty eye candy.
