A Handful of Cards

The current mood board at SumMoreFun Challenge is a wonderful photo collage that includes books, watches, eyeglasses and other vintage items. The pocket watch and books inspired this card. Printed a free pocket watch digi on vellum, (You can find the digi image here olddesignshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/OldDesignShop_ElginChristmasWatchAd.jpgI used scraps of a page from an old, and very worn, a dictionary for the background paper, and a smaller scrap behind the clock face.  Carefully fussy cut the watch, the colored the metal parts with a Silver Marvy Marker on the underside of the vellum. Added a brown ribbon swatch (upcycled from a box of Dove Chocolates that I devoured last Christmas!)  I mounted the sentiment (a freebie from TLC Creations (createwithtlc.blogspot.com) onto a scrap of paper that I upcycled from an old gift bag (I love the warm almost metallic sheen of the bronze.)

Here is the second card that I made from the Niagara Falls brochures that I picked up when in NY. This one features Whimsie Doodles "Sand Dollar Merman."  I cut an oval frame in the front of the waterfall brochure section to frame the handsome guy. And, added a bit of blingy fun with some clear blue enamel dots that look at bit like water droplets. (You can see them in the inside sentiment closeup.)  Am entering the card into several challenges, including a2z Scrapbooking's Monochromatic theme (am hoping that the skin and color don't disqualify my card.), and CAS-ual Friday's Boys of Summer. (Am figuring that Mermen live in a state of perpetual summer  and they don't even have to pay for beachside property!)

Another card for the Butterfly Challenge- "Letter M."  Once again, I followed the two options, Metallic (silver embossed photo mounts) plus Medium Blue (Butterfly sticker). The beautiful roses were made with a Hero Art set that I've have for many years (one of my favs!) The sentiment is from a Stampin' Up set named Lots of Thanks.

Had fun making this card. Used a Darice Embossing folder glossy photo paper to make the wonderful swirly butterfly image. I picked up the packet of paper a while ago thinking I could use it for stamping, but it doesn't hold ink very well. So… am glad I tried it for embossing since I love how crisp the image comes out!) Added a few layers of grey and silver cardstock, then the pretty pink ribbon added some pastel contrast. Felt it needed something... then found a scrap of this delicate silver woven ribbon in my stash... it was perfect! (It was in my mom's stuff. Am thinking it is actually ribbon for wrapping gifts, probably from the 60s or 70s. She was a packrat, too!) I'll add a close up so that you can see the silver ribbon. It almost looks like tatting!

  14. Wow, all these cards are adorable. We are truly blessed that you joined our Challenge earlier this month at Word Art Wednesday. There's still time to join our current Challenge and we'd love to see back. Leaving you with the inspiration of God's Word found in Isaiah 43:10 which says, “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me." Have a great day!
