Praying for Spring!

The current challenge at Double D's is "Woodland Creatures." When organizing my craft room I found this wonderful stamp, from a company that is no longer in business called Coronado Island. Since it is a really detailed image, I stamped it on glossy cardstock with StazOn ink to get a really crisp image. When I then added the background, with a Stampscapes Stamp named "Meadow Large", and sponged the sunset, I discovered that the dye ink reacted to the glossy paper, creating a muted look. Was going to start over, but when the ink dried (which took a while) I liked that creates a hazy look. So… am keeping it! Mounted the finished scene with black photo corners onto pale rose cardstock.   The sentiment on the inside, drawn from a collection of sayings that I started back in the 1970's reads, "When it hurts to look back, and you're afraid to look ahead, You can look beside you and your best friend will be there." Julian Casablancas

To make the card I used the Hero Arts Stamps & Cuts Butterfly set. Stamped the large dotted butterfly on scraps of paper in yellow and orange dye ink. I then added depth to the wings by adding several shades of yellows and oranges (Spectrum Noir alcohol inks) on the wing segments. I like the way the dots still show through some of the segments! Added a few little lines along the edges of the wings and antennae to represent movement, cut along one edge with decorative scissors….because, well… just because! The final touch was to stamp the sentiment from the set onto a paper scrap. Loving the spring feeling of this card (especially when the weather prediction is for ice followed by up to 11 inches of snow and 40 mph winds coming into the Midwest tomorrow. Brrr! And Grrrr!)
Will be entering this into several challenges, including Simon Says "In My Garden" (because butterflies are like glitter in a garden!) the Butterfly Challenge (this time I met two of the requirements, there is a naples yellow butterfly, and the card is not square) plus two Anything Goes challenges.

A recent Bugaboo challenge required washi tape. When cleaning my craft table, I found the rolls had not yet been put away, so decided to put them to use before tossing them back into their drawer. The wonderful image is from Bugaboo digi named "Wizard #6" and the sentiment is from a Bugaboo Digi Set named "Light up my life."

  3. That misty scene is wonderful! I am glad that you kept what might have been considered a mishap! I never had any Coronado stamps, but I remember seeing some beautiful examples using them - that was about when I started to stamp.

  4. Hi Kathy, I have now gotten your card picture to link to the correct post so now all sorted. Don't forget to link the other card that you have posted today as it is not showing in the linky tools as yet. Yes your card is ok as an entry for the second prize on offer with it being not square and using the naples yellow.
I love these bright and snazzy looking butterflies and your added 'just because' element. Thankyou for coming and spinning the butterfly wheel this week. We have poring rain here at present which thankfully is getting rid of the ladt of the snow from lasts weeks mammoth weather blizzard across the UK. I hope you fair better with yours. Hugs Mrs A.
