The 1st of the month finds me making a DT card for the challenge at QKR Stampede. Stop by the
challenge, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded.
Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself?
This time I used a ghost balloon
digi from Eureka Stamps to create two very different cards. The first, with purple
background, features the ghosts printed on translucent paper (I used vellum,
but “onion skin” stationary or writing paper will also work).
The purple card features a free B&W
Halloween Subway Art sentiment, printed on white copy paper and torn along the
edges. I adhered the background ghost to the back of the subway art with a
strip of clear tape before adhering the subway art to the card front with
double stick tape. The front ghost was a bit harder to attach as the tape shows
through the vellum. So I had to cut very thin strips of double stick tape and
place them on white sections of the subway art which hid the tape better than the
dark areas. (I also positioned the ghost balloons so that the tied bottom hang over
the edges so I could trim it off.)
The orange card was made in a
similar fashion, but with a different sentiment background, and the ghosts were printed
on plain white copy paper. This time, I attached the subway art to the front of
the card with black photo corners. I then
used small amounts of snail adhesive to adhere the ghosts to the front of the
card (playfully peeking in from two sides!) Also, since copy paper is barely translucent, I decided to use a plain yellow pencil to sketch the lettering onto the ghosts very lightly
it can be read "through" the ghosts. (Skip this step if desired.)
I plan to decorate the inside of the cards similar to a design I used years ago (pictured). It includes a freebie sentiment and a little ghost image. (Since
the howling ghost I used is no longer available, you could print off another ghost
balloon and use it… or maybe just add a ghost hand reaching toward the sentiment?!)

This card was created
for the Wecraftcard “Gift for a Teacher” challenge. I made this packet of
assorted stickers for a friend who is an elementary teacher. I think that her
students will especially like the ones that promote a sense of adventure: dinosaurs,
spaceships and aliens, mermaids and unicorns (plus a teacher never has enough sparkly
stars and assorted school supply stickers.)
You can’t see it very
well in the photo, but the stickers are “held” in a small file folder from my
scrapbook stash. I put a rubber band on it to hold the stickers securely in
place, but the ribbon and bow can easily be removed. Also, I used minimal
double-stick tape on the rest of the card, so that my friend could easily take it
apart to use the separate pieces to upcycle on a card, for room decoration, bulletin
board, etc.
An added
note- Back when I
was scrapbooking. I discovered an online treasure chest named “Little Scraps of Heaven.” Artist/Owner Tricia Veinot Moore is transitioning to a new shop, so
everything at her current shop is on sale. Most items (and sets) are just $1.50.
Supplies:
· Bear Digi- Little Scraps of Heaven (Bear Holding Pencil)
The panda appears to be retired, but a cute colored bear digi is available for $1
· Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique
markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
· Teacher Label- paper pieced from scraps
· Stars and pencil- fussy cut from Patterned paper

This final card was made
for another of my favorite challenges, Double D’s, where the current theme is
“Things that Fall.” I made a card like this a few decades ago at a card-making
class in South Dakota. I had saved the template and used it to sketch the
apple parts on paper scraps, cut and piece them together onto a scrap of lovely
plaid paper. The leaves were
made with a long scrap of cardstock, folded in half, and run at a diagonal angle through
a corrugator. When cut into a leaf shape, they open up into these beautifully textured leaves! Computer-generated
sentiments finish out the card, which will be added to the packet of cards I’m
making for our church to use in thanking its many volunteers.
I’m entering
this card into several challenges including the Allsorts Challenge “Gardners
Delights” (I was wondering if tending an orchard could be considered gardening,
so I googled it and learned on
THIS site that it
is!) and Path Of Positivity Challenge "Celebrate Something Special about
YOUR COMMUNITY" (During the last 45 years, my husband and I have had seven major moves due to jobs. We have learned that the best way to develop friendships in a new community was to find a church that felt like "family." As a result, we have been blessed with some wonderful friends that have laughed with us through good times and helped us survive rough ones.
