myasperations 8-14-22

I have always appreciated the talent and generous heart of Power Poppy’s artist/ creator, Marcella Hawley. Earlier this year, Marcella shared the following with her newsletter followers- “Hello, friends. We are all watching the attack on Ukraine with immense pain, horror, and a crushing sense of helplessness. I have been wracking my brain to figure out how to help, even in a small way. Perhaps starting with my drawings, and extending out to YOU, we can make a bigger impact to help people feel supported, loved, and wrapped in prayer from all over the world.“
She added, “Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine, and we are starting to see them pop up all over the world to show our support and love. I have two bouquets and sunflowers both detailed and simple. Use them with my blessing for whatever purpose helps show support - whether in a card or in social media.” Marcella then makes a generous offer, “All four of my Sunflower-themed digital images are all now available for FREE to anyone who wants to download them and create cards, flyers, or posters.”
Marcella has also created a beautiful sunflower digi and coloring sheet set named, Peace Offering, which is available for $5. All proceeds will be donated to the Sunflower of Peace Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to helping Ukrainians affected by the Russian military invasion.
That beautiful Peace Offering sunflower and sentiment is center stage on this card. In order to fit into the current “Christmas in July” theme, I used a red and green color scheme. Plus, I took a photo of one of my beloved Christmas sweaters to use as the base for the card. I trimmed the vase shape from the image, then attached a scrap of vellum and acetate on top of it, to allow the pattern (muted with vellum) to show through to the top. So fun!

The Double D’s Challenge has been a favorite of mine for several years. I have collected lighthouse calendars for several years, so was fun to use a few of them for the current DD challenge. For this one, I opted to highlight a wonderful digi from artist Francesca Lopez, artist/owner of Cute As A Button. I colored her summer dress in shades of turquoise, plus used a few scraps turquoise related paper  to layer the sentiment,  allowing me to also enter this card into the August Colorful Options Monthly Challenge.
Supplies:

·   Digi- Cute As A Button (Hawaiian Luau)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Front Sentiment “Yes to New Adventures”- Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Smooth Seas)

·   Inside Sentiment- Freebie from Simply Cards & Papercrafts Magazine  (No longer available)

·   Puffy Heart Sticker- Sticko’s from WalMart (113 assorted puffy hearts for just 99 cents!)

·   Upcycled calendar page, and other items from my stash.
