Scrap Basket

I made this sweet card for a friend who LOVES bears. The little guy is holding a heart in the original digi, but I wanted him to instead deliver a basket of colorful Easter eggs. The basket was fun to make with scraps of kraft brown paper. I decided to make a tutorial of how to make the basket… partly because it will help me to remember the steps the next time I want to make one! It is really a pretty simple 10-step process and the basket is actually a pouch, that you can fill with eggs, hearts, a teabag, gift card or possibly chocolate?!  (You can find the instructions in a posting on my blog HERE.) I did a bit of fussy cutting of Stanley, then used an Exacto knife to trim around his hands so I could lift them and slide the basket underneath. Also cut several of the pretty eggs from patterned paper, added a bit of adhesive along the bottom edges and slipped them into the basket.  The final touch was to add a bit of sparkly by tucking some iridescent Easter grass down into the little basket! (I want to share one additional tip that I learned years ago from a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator. Since I fussy-cut a lot, this simple tip has saved me lots of frustration. Before cutting, add a strip of transparent tape to the underside of any little section that you might easily accidentally snip through. Stanley's ears are examples. The tape on the underside provide additional support and strength to the thin base of those little ears.)
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Simon Says Monday “E is for…”(Easter and Eggs), Simon Says Wednesdays Mood Board (Easter Eggs and floral background), Power Poppy’s Creative Confetti- Spring Blooms (featuring the colors Yellow, blue and Green in the eggs), and Path Of Positivity Challenge- #79 (This card reflect a bit of my style as I like to “extend” the use of a digital or stamped images by adding/swapping out an item. In this card I covered the heart with a basketful of eggs.)

The next card also required some fussy-cutting. My friend and artist, Sherry West, is working on a whole line of these cute little Poppi Pokkadott characters. On this one, she has a little Duckie friend. I had fun pairing the little Miss with bold Spring background paper, and set a few of the butterflies a-flutter with my little EK Honeybee scissors. And the inside sentiment, from a Beccy’s Place Digi set, named The Button Collector, is the perfect fit!

A while ago I found a video tutorial by Dina Kowal that I loved! She used a cup die to create a stencil for this card. Gently adhered to the card front, a beautiful clear stamp from Stampendous provides a beautiful wintry scene.  When the stencil is removed, color is gently added with chalks and a few watercolor markers. A sentiment stamp from a Lawn Fawn set is tied to the cup handle with a scrap of sheer ribbon.  So lovely!

  9. I love what you did with the Stanley image Kathy, what a wonderful idea! I'm always a big fan of extending images to cover multiple occasions. Thanks for the great tip about the tape too... I'll have to remember that one.
Your second card is super cute, what a great little image! Love the sweet duck too. As always, you've done a beautiful job with the colouring, your highlighting and shadowing are awesome.
The last card is wonderful. What a great idea to stamp through a stencil to make it look like a pretty cup. The soft colours definitely help give the impression of bone china. Lovely!
    Cheers,
    Beccy
