Thinking of You

It's Wednesday! So time for another challenge at Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge Blog.  Penny's challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out! (pennyschallenges.blogspot.com) This week, I used a digi from our challenge sponsor Patties Creations named "Thinking of You." I colored the flower and butterfly with Spectrum Noir markers then fussy-cut them. Attached the flower to a rectangle of tan parchment scrapbook paper. The butterfly was attached to the front of the card with foam tape squares. Trimmed the sentiment I had cut from the printed image, and wrapped a strip of yellow vellum around it. Mounted the sentiment on a strip of black cardstock with double stick tape. The brown "frame" was upcycled from an old greeting card.

I love the Pixie's Snippets challenge as it encourages me to use up some of my smaller pieces of precious paper [and since I cannot throw away scraps… I have lots!] For this card I first printed one of my favorite scripture verses on vellum and trimmed it into a banner that would reach nearly to the edges of the card. I then cut banner strips from assorted scraps. I laid a strip of double strip tape on the front of an A2 card and lined the strips upon it. I could then easily trim them in various sizes, clipping the ends into a "v" and creating a colorful background.  I cut two slits in the wide end strips, slid the vellum banner through them and adhered the vellum to the strip with a small strip of double-sided tape.  The vellum points didn't show up very well, so I slid a few snippets of pink beneath them, and trimmed them to compliment the vellum. When I felt that I'd trimmed the strips so that they look "just right" I attached them with more double-sided tape. The final touch was to add stars punched from scraps.

This is my final entry for the STAMPlorations Hey Love Hop and Linky Party. They offer five gorgeous free images with a Love theme to get you started. You can find them HERE.]
I've already used all of those digis, so for this card I used a free STAMPlorations/Shery Russ digi image named "Winter Coffee Mug" that you can it HERE. I colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers and white gel pen, fussy-cut and adhered it to a wonderful embossed background that I upcycled from an old card. The sentiments are computer generated. I wanted to enter this card into Do-Al[l] Creative's "Mixed Media" challenge, so added some wooden leaves that I'd picked up at Hobby Lobby last fall at 50%. Don't they look perfectly matched on this card? I love them. And added a nice tailored look to the front by adding photo corners. BTW- the "coffee" in the cup was a happy mistake. I had added layers of colors because I couldn't get the right color of brown. Decided that I could maybe add a creamy foam look with a little white colored pencil work. It looked awful. So… more brown was layered atop that… and you can see the end result. To me, it almost looks like there is a bit of steam rising up. As I said, a happy mistake and one that I'll probably never be able to replicate. I'll be sending this card to a dear friend that I love like a sister.

  5. Very pretty cards I love the butterfly and the flower one the best. I like how you colored winter mug and added the fall leaves. When fall comes after the long summer I am excited to feel the first chill in the air. Come February after weeks of ice and snow I am saying come on Spring and warmer temperatures. Thanks for sharing with STAMPlorations love blog hop.
