Home Sweet Home

The current Simon Says Wednesday Challenge is truly a challenge. It is called "No Stamps Allowed" meaning no use of rubber/clear stamps or digi images. So, for this card, I used a section of scrapbook paper with a few sweet images and a one-word sentiment, "Home." I printed "Home Sweet" on vellum, cut two small slits above "Home" and threaded the vellum through them, taping it securely on the underside. A few scraps of ribbon and an antique key cut from a different piece of scrapbook paper and attached to the ribbon with a small gold safety pin finishes the card which I'll probably use for a "Congrats on your new home" occasion.  Am also entering this into the Bugaboo Stamps Bingo Challenge [features items in the first column- ribbon, red and charm] and Outlawz Tuesday Color Challenge [features the colors sage green, robins egg blue and a shout of red.]

For many people, their preferred "home sweet home" is on wheels. Several retired family members enjoyed a "happy camper" vagabond type life before becoming snowbirds during the winter months. This card, made with an image from a Gina K stamp set named "The Good Life" was fun to color. I used tan "inchies" and alphabet stickers to create the letter tiles, and an old Wisconsin state map as the background. I sent this off to my SIL and her hubby who are "on the road again" in their home on wheels, cruising the beautiful Southern states while we are expecting our fourth major blizzard in less than three weeks to hit with ice, snow and wind tomorrow. I am sooooo ready for Spring to arrive.

The current Outlawz Sunday Challenge "Songs and Rhymes" invites us to find inspiration for our creations in the song "Sing A Song of Sixpence." For my card, I focused on the "pocketful of rye" lyric. Had to do some google research to find out what rye looks like… and then dug through my stamp and sticker stash. That didn't produce anything that I could use. Then… I remembered saving a donut box from a local bakery because it pictured several wheat stalks that I thought I could use on Thanksgiving cards. I quickly found them, tucked away in my box of "treasures" for possible use on fall and Thanksgiving cards.  A little fussy-cutting, layering of paper scraps, and a bit of ribbon helped bring the card to life. Lastly, I added a free digi from Papercraftsmag

My final card for this post is from the packet of cards that I made for my friend to send to her grandkiddos. Her youngest, a three-year-old little guy, loves cookie moster. So… I think he'll like this card. I sketched "Cookie" from blue paper using a photo as my guide [you can see it in the photo of my card.] I carefully printed a sentiment and drewa a word balloon around it,  cut a cookie from a scrapbook journaling card and slid it into one of his floppy, furry hands. The final touch, googly eyes, were added just to delight the little guy that will soon be getting happy mail!

  2. What a great idea to use patterned scrapbook paper for a card that doesn't have stamping. I have a lot of scrapbook paper that could be used this way. As for that camper card...so adorable! LOVE the alphabet tile sentiment. I have so many alphabet stickers, and never use them, so this is a welcome idea
