Feathered Friends

It's Wednesday! So time for another challenge at Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge Blog. Penny's challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out! (pennyschallenges.blogspot.com)
This week, I used a digi and sentiment from one of the challenge sponsors, Sparkle N Sprinkle, named "Birdhouse Friends" [you can find it here- sparklensprinkle.net] It's colored with Spectrum Noir markers. I had a few A2cards in this pretty pearly blue with a scalloped edge in my stash and decided to make one into a gatefold for the card base.  Layered the front sentiment on a scrap of deep brown cardstock, offset the image to the front of the card and attached the sentiment.  I wanted to make this into a wedding card, so the inside sentiment is computer generated to fit that theme.
Note- I don't often use stickers, but these puffy hearts are an exception. If you follow my blog you'll see them show up quite often. I found a package of these little cuties at Walmart several years ago and now always keep them on hand.  [The package contains 113 assorted puffy hearts for just 99 cents. How could I pass that up?]

I've had this wonderful stamp named "Ernie" from Art Impressions for some time. It makes me think of the snowball fights that my siblings and I had during our childhood. We'd spend hours building a fort and making a stack of snow artillery and then have major battles until we were so cold that we had to go indoors… or until Mom would sing us her come home song. [Ours sounded like this, "Pat, Mike, Kathy, Carol… time for supper."] I made the card with a die-cut window card and an upcycled calendar page. The sentiment on the inside is also an old wood mount stamp from Art Impressions. I added a snowman sticker embellishment for a fun touch. I tried to write the sentiment on the front in lettering that matches the inside font. Am entering the card into the current Art Impressions challenge, plus a few winter-themed challenges. I think that the upcycled calendar photo reflect the true beauty of winter with the sparkling snow, frosted evergreens and crisp blue-gray sky.

My supply of masculine and sport/hobby related cards is getting low, plus I wanted a break from holiday cards… so, I made this beauty. I first created an envelope from an old South Dakota map using an envelope template from Hot Off the Press. A friend recently sent me a card with a fun paperclip embellishment and I used that as my inspiration.  I cut three little fishies and "Gone fishing" sign from scrapbook paper, adhered the fish to the sign and added a thin wire "hanger." to make this sweet embellie from numerous scraps of patterned paper, an old map, and vellum. It took a little time to figure out the banner for the paperclip, getting the right mix of colors and patterns to make the strip that would be draped over the paperclip and stapled in place. I added a top layer of vellum to mute the map a bit so that the little sign and fishes didn't get lost in the background. I really like the way it turned out. The inside sentiment is computer generated using a fun font named "Chiller."  Am entering this card into several challenges including the current Power Polly Challenge named "Try a new technique"[I've never made a paperclip embellishment before. Not sure if that counts as a technique, but I hope so.] and  Pixies Snippets [used lots of little scraps and snips of paper, a map and vellum to make the embellie.]

  2. I love all the cards Kathy - especially the snippet one of course! And you made the envelope too - phew!

The image of the Havanese puppy is by Kim Niles, I searched and searched and found it again. Perhaps I ought to give credit on that blog post - just Google Kim Niles Havanese for that and other Havanese images she's drawn. This one looked so like Dudley though!
