Pumpkins Galore

For this week's challenge at QKR Stampede, I used a Eureka digi image (ES-digi21901-boy-and-cat-in-pumpkins) that you can find on stamponit.net. I printed the image on white cardstock, sizing it to fill most of an A2 sized card front. I colored the image with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and highlighted the pumpkins with a white pencil. Then, I used a technique called "Eclipsing" to add some interest to the card. You can find an excellent tutorial here- http://beccysplace.blogspot.com/search/label/eclipse%20card  [Actually, Beccy's Place has a huge list of tutorials available. It is my 'go-to' place when I want to learn a new technique or fold. Check it out.] Beccy used a word die on her card. I sketched a template for mine because I wanted the letters to be large and … well... I didn't have a "Boo" die! I also wanted the little kitty to be peeking out from one of the openings so the large letters gave me several cat sized openings from which he could peek.

The new Paper Shelter challenge is "Music or Dance." I was inspired by a card on Pinterest to make this card and had recently found one of those micro mini punches at Goodwill so was fun to have that to help with brad placement. [They aren't perfectly straight, but they work just fine.] And, when I pulled my box of brads off of the shelf, I found my missing circle dies hiding there.  Guess they wanted to fraternize! Put them to work making this card. Took a little time to string the guitar with a silver cord, but was worth the effort. Wasn't sure what I'd use for the card sentiment, so I went through my stash of unused sentiments that I've stamped over the years but set aside. This one jumped out at me. However, I have no idea what company makes/made it as I  remember stamping it when I owned a stamp store back in the late 90's and was making display cards. [Am thinking it was a Denami or Embossing Arts stamp.] The stamped image had faded a bit, so I went over the sentiments and music notes with a fine-line Sharpie.

The October Challenge at Power Poppy is called "It's Your Birthday" and offers a really interesting invitation to create. Here is the info provided by this months DT hostess- "I’m challenging everyone to use their birthday month as inspiration. Make a card that either celebrates the season (Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer), any holiday that might be happening during the month of your birthday, your wedding, your child's birth, whatever that month represents to you."
My birthday month is January, so decided to make a Happy New Year card. Started out with a sweet digi from Little Scraps of Heaven that is available right now for just $1 [www.littlescrapsofheavendesigns.com/Item_1849/New-Years-Elephant.htm] I used a technique on the inside of the card to make a unique pop up card. [Instructions here- www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDodsjKFQ8AThe Happy New Year balloon image is a freebie from Desert Diva [desertdiva-hannelie.blogspot.com] and the Celebrate sentiment is from a Beccy's Place Digi Set named "Superb Fairy Wren."

My final card for this post uses images and a sentiment from a Beccy's Place digi set named "Tea Time." The set includes many items that fit into the teacup, but for this card, I decided the cup would hold one of the most lovable looking bears that I've seen in a while. I just want to cuddle him! To create a vintage tea feeling I used a scrap of a square doily for the table cover and antique looking floral print paper for the "wallpaper." To add some depth and texture, I lifted his head and paws from the car with foam tape squares [you can see that in the close up] and added satin ribbon around his neck and a small bow. The sentiment on the inside of the card is from another Beccy's Place digi set named "Narcissus."

  2. Awesome collection of cards Kathy, I love them all! You did a wonderful job with the "BOO" card, I love the placement of the letters over the pumpkins. The little kitty peeping out from behind the "B" is adorable.
The guitar card is fabulous! How cool would it be to string something that made a sound... perhaps some taut rubber bands? I love this card, I think it's super creative.
I like the idea of making a card based on your birth month, that's a great challenge. I like the colour scheme of your card, blue and brown always work well together. The little elephant is super cute too.
I definitely get a tea-party vibe from your last card Kathy, I think the doily does it for me. I'm imagining ladies in long white gloves, little cucumber sandwiches with the crusts removed and tiny cakes with edible flowers. So pretty.
Great job on all of them.
    Cheers,
    Beccy
