Midweek Beauties

It's Wednesday! So time for another challenge at Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge Blog.  Penny's challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out! (pennyschallenges.blogspot.com)
This week, I made a card with a striking image named "Marigold"  from Polkadoodles Stamps [http://www.polkadoodles.co.uk] Beautiful Mari was easy to color with Spectrum Noir markers in bright autumn colors. I recently picked up these flower sequins at a local thrift store and they begged to be added to this card. So what's a crafter to do? I put them on both the front and inside of the card! The front and inside sentiments are both from a Whimsy stamp digi set named "Vintage Sentiments." Note- the sequin flowers are actually a pretty light peach color. Against the black background, they photograph as teal. Odd.

This sweet tag was inspired by a card that a friend gave me years ago. Created it with scraps of several patterned papers, embossed paper [swirls] and even scraps of acetate [to help the mini butterflies to flutter off of the tag.] The final touches were ribbon scraps in dotted pink and white. Awww so cute.

The last card featured mostly scraps, this one highlights several upcycled item- a sentiment from an old wedding card and a bit of bling from an old broken necklace. I used a Spellbinder medallion die to cut the "window" feature in rich white cardstock that has a nice texture, then mounted it on metallic brushed gold cardstock and black cardstock. Mounted this onto a Kraft brown card base to reflect the rich yet rustic feeling of the white lettering on the wood background on  the current SumMoreFun mood board.  Decided to make the card base into a square and offset the white window on the card, trimming off the top section. Then added the piece of the broken necklace that included a "diamond" [because it's for a wedding card] and added the upcycled sentiment.

My final card for this posting is a yummy entry into Power Poppy's new Creative Confetti Challenge to create a background to highlight the featured image. I pulled out a favorite stencil from Printworks  and an old wood mount grape stamp from Embossing Arts.  The stamps bold image worked perfectly for what I had in mind. I inked it up with thick Marvy markers in dark green and purple, then spritzed the inked stamp with water before pressing it firmly on an A2 sized card. I then cut a circle mask and placed it over the grapes [now dry] and used purple ink and a sponge to add the stripes. The sentiment is a sticker that I embellished with layers of purple and black paper. It didn't look grounded when I put it on the card, so I cut a few strips of paper- black and purple- positioning them vertically on the card and attaching the sentiment. And it was good to go.

  6. Kathy, I laughed when I saw your card because I honestly think that at one point in time I had that grape stamp from Embossing Arts. That's an oldie but goodie! And it's been forever since I colored up a stamp with markers -- love the throw back technique! It's a lovely creation and that purple is vibrant and pretty!
