Cute Spiders [Is that even possible?]

Finally found some time to make a few cards to enter in the current Stella Says Sketch at Bugaboo. Here is the second card that I created using spider images that make me smile. [Didn't think I'd ever say THAT.] I followed the sketch pretty closely, except that the top circle is die cut so that the spider image is actually inside of the card. I also used silver thread to add the idea of a "web" stretching across the card. The front sentiment is a freebie sentiment from TLC Creations (createwithtlc.blogspot.com) and the inside sentiment is computer generated.

I had one of the cute little spiders left over, and liked the spider card with silver web so well that I used an old ring box [from my stash, of course] to create a mini gift box.  Will be giving it to one of my staff with a Lindt Lindor Truffle tucked inside. She loves them. Lindt Truffles.… not spiders!

This week's Monday Challenge at wecraftcards is a photo challenge. The pink house in the photo caught my attention, and gave me a chance to use one of my favorite Beccy's Place digi sets named "Seasonal Windows." I did add a few shades of pink into the bricks, along with some grey and tan. The sentiment on the front of the card is a freebie from TLC Creations (createwithtlc.blogspot.com) and the inside sentiment is from a retired Power Poppy digi set named "Autumn Opulence." The dining room sketch is a freebie from http://isolatedground.com [found by googling "Kitchen Sketch Designs"]  I added "glass" to the window by taping a large scrap of acetate to the backside of the window frame, and added depth to the card to mounting the window onto the inside scene with thick foam tape.

The Monday Simon Says Challenge this week is titled "Cityscapes." I found a free clipart cityscape image that had a fun retro feeling and printed it off in grey scale. [You can find it here- clipartpanda.com/clipart_images/city-clip-art-58207732]  I knew it would fit perfectly with a cute futuristic digi image from illustrator and children's book author Elizabeth Dulemba (http://dulemba.com/index.html) that I wanted to use. Elizabeth has created hundreds of digis and coloring pages that she offers for free download! [The one that I used for this card can be found here- dulemba.blogspot.com/2018/09/coloring-page-tuesday-traffic.html] I printed off the image, then lay a strip of acetate across the image and traced the "bubble tops" of the cars.  After coloring the images I fussy cut around the car drivers and passengers. [Before doing this, I flipped the colored images over and attached a strip of clear packing tape to the backside. This helps prevent ripping when cutting around small areas.] When finished, I trimmed around the acetate bubble tops and taped them to the backside of the cars. To create a sky on the cityscape, I sketched clouds on the white expanse on the top of the image.  The sentiment is a sparkly sticker layered atop circles of black and vellum.

  3. Wonderful cards Kathy, well done! I love the cute little spiders you used on the first card and the gift box, their big eyes and happy smiles are adorable.
You did a great job with the autumn window scene, I really like the addition of the inside of the house that you can see through the window... that's very clever! Great colouring too.
Love the last card, there are times when I've been stuck in traffic that I actually start to feel like that big green monster! Thanks for the tip about the packing tape.
    Cheers,
    Beccy

  9. Those spiders are a cutie and so as your other projects. We are so blessed you link your artwork with us last Challenge at Word Art Wednesday. There still a few days left for you to join us again in our current Challenge. Leaving you with the inspiration of the Scripture in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 which says, "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe." Have a blessed day!
