myasperations 2-16-22

It's time for another challenge at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge Blog where challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out!
For this challenge, my DT card features a sweet digi from Paper Nest Dolls named Valentine Owen. I like to make gatefold cards when I want a card to have a little extra pow, and they are also so easy to make! Open the gatefold to find Owen’s little friend perched inside with his very personalized (or should I say puppyalized?!) greeting. So fun!
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Passion for Markers “Favorite Colors”(I've always liked combining brown/tan and blue. But I really l like the addition of red and pink on this card, too. And just like that, I have a new favorite color combo!)
Supplies:
·   Gate Fold Instructions found Here or Here (YouTube)

·   Digi- Paper Nest Dolls (Valentine Owen)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Puffy Heart Sticker- Stickos

·   Front Sentiment- Freebie from Desert Diva (Will You Be My Valentine?)

·   Inside Sentiment- Freebie from Desert Diva (Woof You)

·   Patterned paper, cardstock, and other items from my stash.

I just had to create another card that features Owen’s pup as the star of his own card! To help the little guy stand out from the bold polka dot background, I used a heart template and metallic silver cardstock to create a frame, which I lined with a scrap of a dark grey plastic index divider sheet. (These are sometimes called document file folders, which come in a pack of assorted colors and can be found in the office supply section of most stores. They're cheaper than colored vellum and more translucent. Punches and dies don’t work on these sheets, but they are easy to fussy-cut with a sharp pair of scissors.) I especially like the way you can see the polka dots from the background paper peeking through the smoky plastic.  Sentiments, photo corners, and one sparkly red sticker finish off the fun card which I sent to my dog-loving sister!
Supplies:

·   Digi- Paper Nest Dolls (Valentine Owen)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Front Sentiment- Freebie from Desert Diva (Woof You)

·   Inside Sentiment “Happy Valentine’s Day”- Hero Arts (retired)

·   Sparkly Heart Stickers- Hobby Lobby

·   Pioneer Black Photo corners- available from several sources

·   Heart template from my scrapbook stash

·   Patterned paper, metallic silver cardstock and scrap of plastic file folder from my stash.

I signed up for the Gerda Steiner Designs newsletter a few years ago, and love learning about sales and special events plus enjoy the occasional freebies. (The newsletter sign up link is available HERE.) This is the most recent newsletter freebie, which was fun to create and send to my oldest brothers. Pat was in the Navy and was stationed in Antarctica where he enjoyed sporadic sightings of the native creatures, especially penguins. I left the inside of this card blank so that I could add some news from the Midwest. (Pat now lives in the Southern states and usually calls or texts to gloat about their temps whenever we are hit with a blizzard or frigid “Arctic Clipper” winds.)
Supplies:

·   Digi- Gerda Steiner Designs Free Digi for newsletter customers.

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Patterned Paper and Sparkly Star Stickers- Hobby Lobby

·   Parchment and metallic silver cardstock from my stash.

myasperations 2-11-22

It’s Friday... time for the Colour Crazy Challenge. This challenge is “Anything Goes” but it adds a requirement; the creation needs to include coloring in “any colouring medium you like, onto any project you like, and in any colours you like.” I’ve never outgrown my love for coloring, which is why making cards is therapy for me!
This week's sponsor is Jan’s Digi Stamps and my DT card uses a lovely digi and sentiments from a  set named Tea Time. I printed the vintage image on white cardstock and used Spectrum Noir Classique Markers and a white Sakura Gelly Roll gel pen to add some contrast and highlights. Scraps from the patterned paper I’ve had in my stash for at least a decade are a perfect fit for this digi. A bow made from a bit of pale pink ribbon, silver photo corners, and a few little purple flowers fussy-cut from the background paper provides a few embellishments.
Supplies:
·   Digi and sentiments- Jan’s Digi Stamps (Tea Time)
·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Silver photo corners available from several web sources (WXJ13 Photo Mounting Corners)

·   Pink ribbon, cardstock, and patterned paper, from my stash.

I haven’t used this wood mount stamp for a few decades… but after I discovered it in my stash a few weeks ago, I just had to make a few cards. This is my second using a Penny Black Cat stamp. I fussy-cut the little furball again, but this time I took the advice from a commenter and didn’t cut around all those whiskers. Instead, I drew them in after adhering the cat to the card front. Easy-Peasy!

Supplies:

·   Rubber Stamp- Penny Black Cat with Heart (no longer available)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen, and Sharpie black permanent fine-line marker

·   Patterned paper-Hobby Lobby

·   Front Sentiment-True Love Sticker from my Scrapbook Stash.

·   Inside sentiment- Eureka Digital Stamp (Happy Valentine’s Day) Also available in unmounted or cling-mounted

·   Cardstock and other items from my stash.

·   All other items from my stash.

myasperations 2-9-22

I am honored to have served as a Guest Designer for Beccy Muir at Beccy’s Place and am now one of her “Contributors” (which means that she provides me with digis or clear stamp sets several times a year and I get to create cards or other items with them!) It is always fun to see the images Beccy invites me to use.  This time, the digi and sentiments are all from a just-released set named Nuts ‘N’ Bolts.
I love that Beccy names each of her characters and the name of this robot, Clang, makes me giggle. I really liked Beccy's pre-colored Clang, especially because of how his bright purple coloring compliments the yellow-green background paper from my scrapbook stash. After I used an oval template to create layering on the card and added the sentiments, I thought the card was lacking something.  After a little unsuccessful experimenting, I noticed a wad of cotton on my work table, and an idea went off in my brain. A robot named Clang is sure to love churning up a bit of exhaust or dust when making a fast get-away, right?! Plus, the cotton, some ultra-fine gold glitter on the robot's dashboard, and metallic silver cardstock add a fun texture to the card.
Supplies:

·   Pre-colored Digi and Sentiments from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Nuts ‘N’ Bolts)

·   Shading and highlights added with Spectrum Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen, and Pentel Silver marker

·   Gears patterned paper and oval templates from my scrapbook stash.

·   Cardstock, ultra-fine gold glitter, and small cotton wad from my stash.

Crafty Hazelnut’s Patterned Paper Challenge- February

It’s been a super busy month, suffering from COVID plus staff resignations followed by interviews. Whew! Was glad to have a bit of time to color… especially making Valentine's cards. This one features a beautiful digi set from Beccy’s Place. I loved coloring the wood ice bucket with markers, then adding a bit of “weathering” with a white colored pencil.  If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that I love finding treasures in the clearance aisles at Hobby Lobby, JoAnnes, plus assorted thrift stores. The wonderful Gold Foiled front of this card was cut from a packet of clearance News Year’s Party invitations (for 75% off!) Strips of gold-foiled trimmed from one of the invites are added to the inside sentiment.  And of course, what celebration is complete without some glitter… this time brought to you by stickers (that are shedding slightly.)

Supplies:

·   Digi from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Champagne)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers, Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen and white colored pencil

·   Sparkly Hearts Stickers:- Hobby Lobby

·   Front Sentiment- Gold Foiled Party invitations from Hobby Lobby

·   Inside sentiment- “Happy Valentine’s Day”- Hero Arts (retired)

·   Circle templates from my scrapbook stash.

·   Cardstock (Metallic Gold and Tan Parchment), and small cotton wad from my stash.

It’s Friday and time for the Colour Crazy Challenge. This week's sponsor is All Dressed Up and my DT card features a sweet digi from All Dressed Up Stamps named Birthday Girl. I printed the little cutie on white cardstock and used Spectrum Noir Classique Markers and Sakura Gelly Roll gel pens to add color, sparkle, shading, and highlights. I love how the sentiment “Glitter Girl” from We Are 3 fits so well with this digi. especially when paired with glittery heart stickers, brightly patterned paper, and both black and shining silver photo corners.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, and heart challenges all over the web, I just had to dig out a favorite old (like maybe from the ‘90s) Penny Black cat stamp!
