In just a few weeks, we’ll be celebrating one of my dad’s favorite national
holidays- the 4th of July! During my childhood, my siblings and I
looked forward to this day, second only to Christmas. It involved a large family
gathering at a relative's farm, a HUGE picnic, and an afternoon and evening spent enjoying
fireworks. The day was topped off with hand-turned ice-cream and fresh-picked
strawberries… sometimes my aunt surprised us with shortcake to add to this evening
treat! Dad also loved dogs. So, I made this sweet card in honor of him.

This card features a
favorite summer beverage during the hottest days of summer, a large glass
of ice-cold Sun Tea! The card features a free digi from Scribbles. I just
wanted the glass, so I trimmed the pitcher from the digi for later use. I
traced the glass onto a scrap of acetate with a fine-line black marker,
fussy-cut the clear glass, and set it aside. I cut the ice cubes and drinking
straw and, after adding thin stripes to the straw, attached them to the inside
of the glass. A scrap of tan vellum, trimmed to fit inside the
"glass," finished off the yummy drink. Then came the drink
embellishments! The umbrella embellishment, “borrowed” from my cupcake décor
drawer, was made card-friendly by replacing the wood pick with strip of brown
cardstock, before adding a few small strips of double stick tape and pressing
the umbrella sections onto the card. A lemon slice was fussy-cut from a piece of citrus fruit background

I’m entering this card into several
challenges, including Park Hopping-My Happy Place (This is one of my favorite challenges and has helped me to develop a whole
bucket list of parks I want to visit before I… well… kick the bucket! I
searched for a park that offers sun tea, and learned that its rarely offered
due to “health concerns.” Not sure what that means, but my research did intro
me to a place that looks promising -Knoebels Amusement Resort
in Elysburg, Pennsylvania is know as “America's Largest Free Admission Amusement Park.” Their FB page raves
about a Frozen Tea Slushie that sounds delicious!)
