myasperations 5-21-25

This card features a beautiful Moondrea Designs Mermaid digi named Nereida, which is provided free to participants of their monthly Progressive FB Challenge. I love mermaids, because they are magical, playful, and… well… because I’m forever a child at heart!
I knew I would enjoy coloring all the delicate details on the digi; Neirida’s hair, jewelry, and flowers. I didn’t realize that I’d also have fun creating the watercolor background directly behind this beautiful mermaid. I usually like to have tight control when adding color to my cards, but it was somehow freeing to dab, swish, and smoosh the colors. Who knew that alcohol markers could do that?! I did have to clean up a few oopsies when I started the detailed coloring. But, I do like the way the card turned out! (Oh, and I also did some fussy-cutting when creating seashell embellishments from patterned paper. So, I’m a happy camper!)

This is my fourth entry into the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers (BYSHC) Challenge for May on FB. I’m having fun using assorted Santas  from a pack of scrapbook embellishments I’ve had for some time. This time, I created a base for the Motorcycle Santa embellishment with a piece of a winter scene from an upcycled calendar, and surrounded the scene with squares of a South Dakota map. I added three “Ho Ho Ho” sentiment strips cut from an upcycled card, and squeezed some white “snow” to add contrast and texture. Lastly, I adhered a map square and one of the scrapbook embellishments to the inside of the card.

Supplies:

·   Santa with “Merry Christmas” sentiment and  “Santa Stop Here” sign (inside of card) from a pack of scrapbook embellishments- JoAnnes Crafts (stores recently closed nationwide.)

·   Scribbles White 3D Paint- adds “snow” to the winter scene, HoHoHo strips, and the bottom of a few of the map squares.

·   Stickles-Diamonds (to add sparkle to snowflakes and snowbanks)

·   Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.

·   All other misc. items and tools from my stash.

I still have a few more space cards to post to Star Wars-themed challenges. This one features a spaceship, an astronaut, and a space dog from Whimsie Doodles, which is sadly no longer in business. (However, the blog is still posted and offers excellent tutorials that I have found helpful, especially on coloring hair and eyes with alcohol inks, HERE. Tuesday Tutorials are listed in the right panel on this link.)      All of the items on my card are from my stash and/or noted in the supplies list!
An added note- Sadly, Beccy Muir, artist/owner of Beccy’s Place, is discontinuing her digi line on June 30th (she explains the reasons for this difficult decision HERE.) So, if you have plans to add any of her digi sets to your collection, or have any gift cards you need to use, you will need to do that soon. Beccy added a “Digital Stamp Sale” section to her shop, in which she has posted many individual digis and sets from the past, priced from $3.50 to as low as 31¢ (US rate). Since I often use sentiments from Beccy’s digi sets on my cards, I made sure to pay attention not just to the images but also the sentiments in the sets as I filled my cart with these treasures! The set I used on this card is a prime example. I’ve used the digis and sentiments on kids' BDay cards, but also a few of the sentiments work beautifully on cards for graduation, new jobs, etc.
Supplies:

·   Digi- Whimsie Doodles (Space Cadets) Sadly, the blog and shop closed in 2020

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Background- from a set of space stickers and background I purchased at an Oriental Trading Company sale several years ago.

·   Front Sentiment “You’re Out of This World”-Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Out of This World)

·   Inside Sentiment- Computer Generated, embellished with alien stickers from Dollar Store

·   Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.

·   Silver ribbon,  other misc. items and tools from my stash.
