The last few months have brought
so many changes in my life- retirement, two of my favorite people closing their digi shops (Sheepski Designs and Beccy's Place Digi), family health issues, and a few more pairs of jeans that got shrunk in
the dryer! (I deny that the last item has anything to do with holiday treats! Heh heh.) That said, life is good. I now get to spend so much time with my sweet
hubby and in my craft room. Plus, was thrilled to invited to become one of the
Dressy Girls, aka DTs, for the All Dressed Up Stamps FB Challenge Team! (Thanks, Wendy and Andrea!)
This month's FB challenge theme is “For the Girl” and I decided to make a
Valentine's Card that features “Cookie Girl.” It was easy to do because Wendy Burns
(artist/owner of ADU) had already added cute little hearts to the digi, on the baking pan, and in the gingerbread dough (plus one perched n the little chef's nose!) Saweet!!
I’m
entering this card into several challenges including Allsorts
Challenge: optional theme of Romance and/or Music (my husband loves gingerbread.
I usually only make gingerbread cookies at Christmas but I think I’ll bake up a
batch for Valentine’s Day this year. FYI- at our house romance usually involves
food!) and Park Hopping-My Happy Place (If health and our budget allowed, it would be so fun to celebrate Valentine's Day at
Be Our Guest Restaurant at Disney World.)

Park Hopping-My Happy Place (
Feb)
Since
retiring, I’ve been slowly decluttering my craft room. In the process, I found
some partial cards that I’d made back in the late 90’s when embossing impressions
with a light box, brass stencils, and a metal stylus were all the rage! This card contains two of those impressions,
a simple yet elegant Christmas tree and the word “Merry”. I used them, plus scraps
of ribbon and lace from my stash and a fancy fold tutorial to create this White-on-white
card for the current Double D challenge.
Supplies:
·
Flap Fold Card Tutorial- Freebie from Beccy’s Place HERE
·
“Christmas Tree” (image) and “Merry” (sentiment) made with Brass stencils
and Sylus years ago.
·
ZIG Wink of Stella clear glitter
brush marker
· Inside Sentiment “May the Joy of Christmas Keep you Warm” from Lili of the Valley digi set (Christmas Wishes)
·
Holly Embossed White Vellum-from my
stash
·
Sookwang double-sided tape- Available from several sources on the web.
·
White ribbon, antique lace, other misc. items and tools from my stash.

A few
days ago, I posted a Lumberjack card on my blog using a few digis from RG
Studios 360 set. This card features another image, "punny” sentiments from that set, and a few other digis and papers from my stash.
I’m
entering this card into several challenges including Time
Out’s Pick
Two: Stitch, Layer, Heart, Food, Love, Warm (the front and inside of my card both
include several layers and hearts, plus I sketched stitches on the lumberjacks bib
overalls with a sharp pencil), and Path Of
Positivity Challenge:
Unexpected Event In Your Past
(The
unexpected event was that I met a young man my first night at
college at a “Freshman Welcome” dance. Named
Rich, I learned that he was a sophomore student who joked he was there with a few
friends to “check out the freshmen girls!” We shared several dances and I enjoyed
his sense of humor. He was also drop-dead gorgeous with blue eyes and thick blond hair falling to his shoulders!
I'd suffered a bad breakup that summer and the last thing I was seeking was a relationship. So I was surprised how
much I enjoyed occasionally running into him on our small campus. By the end of
that year, we were dating regularly and were married a year later. In the 47 years
since we’ve survived a dozen major moves, first due to college
and medical school (Rich was an internist), and later due to jobs. Life has
dealt us a few blows with job losses and health issues, but I am so thankful
that our paths crossed on that warm August night nearly 50 years ago! I hadn’t planned on finding the love of my life that night but now I can’t imagine life without my Rich!
I thank God for that unexpected event/meeting.)

I love all of your cards ad the stories behind them. The lumberjack card is just fabulous and I really LOVE your story there. Yes, definitely make your sweetheart those gingerbread cookies for Valentines Day. I hope you enjoy many more years with your Rich. Thanks so very much for sharing your wonderful card with us at Time Out!
ReplyDeleteI love your baker card, so sweet, a beautiful white on white Christmas card so beautiful too. Your beautiful Valentine card is fun and perfect. I love your story about how you and hubby first met. It could be the same story as ours. I had had a bad breakup, always worse in your teens I think. We met as a blind date, I couldn't have had a better husband. We've been married 59 years this year. Big hugs x
