myasperations 6-19-23

The Butterfly Challenge is a favorite of mine for several reasons. I love butterflies, the host/sponsor is creative and generous, and I get and she shares instructions for a special fold each challenge. I enjoyed this quick and easy one,  appropriately named the Bookmark Fold! My card includes two of the required colors: banana (butterfly) and  briar, plus three of the themes: Bow (and tiny button below the raffia bow digi, Butterflies, and the Bookmark Fold.)
I attempted to use watercolor pencils on artist Jan Mahew’s beautiful floral arrangement because I wanted a light wash of colors. Instead, I ended up with a muddy blurry image. I almost tossed it… but am not a quitter. So, after allowing the image to dry completely, I used my trusty white gel pen to add highlights and definition. (Oh, and I like the sentiment, which I printed as a “two-parter” so the punch-line could be on the inside of the card. So fun!)
Supplies:

·   Floral Digis- Jans Digi Stamp Set (Spring Flowers and Coffee)

·   Colored with Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·   Sentiment- “Life Doesn’t Come with a Manual…” from a Jans Digi Stamp Set (Bonnet Bouquet)

·   Butterfly Stickers and Weathered Wood Paper- Hobby Lobby

·   Cardstock, scraps of ribbon, and other items from my stash.

This card was inspired by a sketch from the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers Group {BYSHC} I found this great group on FB a few years ago and, although I don’t use sketches very often, I do like the ones that they offer. And I LOVE that they host Linky parties several times a year. (I don’t think I’ve missed one of their linky parties since I joined. They offer lots of wonderful prizes and the sponsor is so gracious and kind!)

For this card, I used a sweet (literally!) digi and two sentiments from Beccy Muir, an amazing artist, business owner, and friend. When I first saw this sucker digi, I knew that I had to use it on a card with real cellophane. The only difficult thing about making this card was picking out the background papers, and fussy-cutting the bow for the sucker! (Oh… and trying not to drool while wrapping its peppermint yummyness!)
Supplies:

·   Sucker Digi - from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Christmas Candy)

·   Colored with Spectrum Noir Classique markers and Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen

·  6x6 Christmas Paper Pack- Hobby Lobby

·   Front Sentiment “Delicious Christmas Wishes” from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Christmas Cheers)

·   Inside Sentiment “Jolly Good Holiday”” from Beccy’s Place Digi Set (Cozy Christmas)

·   All other items from my stash.

Since I’m a Contributor for Beccy’s Place, I’m entering just for fun!

Brooklyn, one of my grand-nieces, is a true “critter lover.”  Since Brooklyn was in preschool she’s enjoyed a menagerie of pets including cats, dogs, and guinea pigs, and always took good care of them. So, when she was 8 years old and asked if she could have a lizard, her parents helped her research options. They were a bit surprised she picked one that would frighten most children (and some adults) but they knew she’d take good care of her new friend. Brooklyn named him Leon, explaining, “You know… because he’s a lizard!” (Although, I recently learned that Leon is a Bearded Dragon, not an Iguana, I think this card will still make Brooklyn smile on her upcoming birthday!)
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Inspiration Station- Photo: (my card includes a yellow sunset scene, plus, it makes me miss Brooklyn… but Leon not so much. I know that they are calm, and not threatening, but he does scare me a bit!); and
Park Hopping-My Happy Place: (Dragons make me think of Harry Potter, so visiting Universal Studios Diagon Alley Orlando is on my bucket list!)

  8. I remember my son wanting an Iguana, so we got 2...and learned quickly that if they are not interacted with on a daily basis (and several times a day), they become quite MEAN. The good news is, we found them forever homes with a Reptile specialist. Brooklyn is going to love her card, Thanks for joining us at the Inspiration Station Challenge and inspiring us with your card.

  9. Three fantastic cards Kathy, well done! I love the colouring on all... you always do a great job. I'm glad you didn't end up tossing the beautiful flowers, they are gorgeous. Great idea to wrap the lollipop in cellophane, and I'm very impressed that you were able to fussy cut that bow! I think I would have been crossed-eyed by the end of it.
Love the lizard card and I'm sure your great-niece will get a kick out of it. Bearded dragons are from Australia and we have lots of them running around our property here. Did you know they actually wave their arm to show submission? It's quite a sight!
    Cheers,
    Beccy
