DT Fun

It’s the 1st of the month so I’ve made a DT card for the challenge at QKR Stampede. Stop by the challenge, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself?
I’ve had fun making Halloween cards with some amazing Eureka digis and free starry background paper from Polkadoodles. (This paper is part of a whole bundle of freebies that was released on the 4th of July.  I’m not sure how long it will be available, so you might want to grab it now. The link is in the supply list below.) After cutting the starry paper to fit a slimline card, I used assorted tree stamps and green ink pads to create a forest on the card.  The scarecrow was printed separately onto white cardstock, colored, fussy-cut, and attached to the card with double-stick tape.  The balloon is made with vellum. I printed the original onto copy paper, then traced it onto vellum, sketching it first with pencil, then going over that line with a permanent black marker before cutting it out. I laid it onto the stary sky background, taking a bit of time to determine where it should be positioned, then traced around it with a grey marker to add some depth and shading. A few thin strips of double-stick tape along the edges helped secure it in place. A black Sharpie marker was used to add the balloon string.

Thanksgiving cards are on my mind, so I decided to make another DT Card for QKR Stamped Challenge that we can send out in a few weeks. The large Pumpkin Background Stamp works beautifully for paper piecing. I printed into onto white cardstock, then printed additional copies of the pumpkins and leaves on orange and green dotted paper. I love how adding shading with a few shades of grey marker and a blender pen almost makes the dotted paper look like fabric! I’m entering this card into several challenges including Double D’s Challenge- What does October mean to me? (October means pumpkins, crisp fall weather and that trio of holidays are on the way- including Thanksgiving which means… pumpkin pie. My favorite!)

Since it’s the first of the month, I’m also sharing my DT card for the October Sheepski Designs Challenge. This month’s theme is “Christmas and/or Sparkle” and I had fun making a heartwarming card using a digi named “Bear Tails.” I fell in love with this cute group of critters at first sight… and immediately knew that it would make a great Christmas card. I was going to create a background with a decorative tree or fireplace… until I found this upcycled card in my stash… and I knew that a window card would be perfect! I used some pre-cut cards that I’ve had in my stash since I was the co-owner of a stamp store in the late ‘90s. I adhered a piece of acetate to the inside of the window and added a bit of white acrylic paint on the corners of the panes to resemble snow.  The upcycled card was cut to size and attached with foam tape. On the front of the card, I created carpeting and a baseboard with some paper scraps and marker shading. Then, after coloring the critters, I fussy-cut and adhered them to the card front. (To add more depth, I printed off an extra copy of the bunny and fox, colored, cut, and attached them with foam tape. When I can find my mini pompoms I might add one to the bunnies tail!)
I’m entering this card into several challenges including Simon Says Monday Challenge- Movie Inspired (Here Comes Santa Claus) and Outlawz Color Challenge- Shades of Blue (the scene that has several shades of blue is center stage on the front of the card, and I’ve used portions of the upcycled card to bring shades of blue to the inside of the card, too.)
