This is my second entry into
the Whimsy Stamps Virtual Weekend challenges. I used Whimsy’s adorable digi
named Penguin Momma to make a Mother’s Day card. I had fun coloring the cute
babies blankie to match the background colors. I’m entering this into several
challenges including The Paper Shelter’s “Things with
Wings” (I wasn’t sure if penguins had wings, so did some googling and
discovered that “Penguins are classified as birds and like other birds
have wings too, but these wings are not used for flying.” (Source- Exploration Squared
provides lots of other neat info on these wonderful critters!) and Path Of Positivity Challenge “Success” (I made this
card for a friend who, after hoping for a baby for many years, is expecting
this fall! She and her hubby will make such great parents and are so excited to
welcome this little one into their family. So… I decided to make a Mothers Day card for
Paula. The surprise is that I won’t wait until next May to give it to her on day it's traditionally celebrated. Instead, I’ll give it to her right after the baby
is born. Because his birthday is when she will officially become a mom! So fun!)

This card
features another freebie that was available at the Whimsy Stamps Virtual
Weekend. This digital set includes two great sentiments plus patterned paper
decorated with soft pastel feathers. I added additional pattern and color with musical
score patterned paper and hearts cut from scraps of plastic document sheets. (These wonderful items come in a pack of assorted colors and can be
found in the office supply section of most stores. I really like using them on
my cards because they're cheaper than colored vellum and are more
translucent. You can write on them with
a fine-line permanent marker, which I used to trace the hearts. The plastic is
easy to fussy-cut with a nice, sharp pair of scissors.) I’m entering this card into several challenges including Di’s Digi
Stamps “ Fold it Fancy” (a gatefold was the
first “fancy fold” I ever used back when I started making cards in the late ‘90’s
and it still is one of my go-to folds to add a little extra touch to a card)
and Day
of the Month Challenge “Repeat Day” (my card has three translucent hearts. Also,
I just stumbled upon this challenge and think that I’ll be a “repeat attendee”
as I love its concept!) I added a bit of decoration to the inside, but am no adding a sentiment as this is going to a friend I haven't talked with in a while and wanted room to write a note. (Back in 1975 we were college roommates and she gave me a plaque that reads, " A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words." So I think that she will like this sentiment!) Note- I do like to cite the source of quotes. This one appears to be from a Shania Twain song... but since she was born in 1965 I think she must have "borrowed" it for her song!
