Signs of Summer

I can’t wait until summer arrives this year. By then we will, hopefully, be out of quarantine… and bees and butterflies will be happy at work. This free image from scribbles is… well… SWEET! I make a ruffle with a strip of the plaid paper that I was using for my background and used a few scraps of vellum to make the butterfly wings translucent. The layout is complements of Bugaboo’s Stella,  and all other items used are detailed in my supplies list. Now... I need to Bzzzz on to the next post!
Am entering this card into several challenges including two at Outlawz: Sunday Songs and Rhymes (I think every Teddy Bear Picnic would include jars of honey) and Mondays Challenge- Use Plaids (background and ruffle.)

When doing some Spring cleaning I found several little packets of essential oils and knew just what I wanted to do with the lavender ones! I’ve loved the free digis that I’ve saved over the years from a website named Graphics Fairy. I’d also recently saved a tutorial for making Faux Vellum Scented labels… from digi images copied onto regular copy paper, cooking oil… and essential oils if desired. So I pulled out the instructions and got to work. The results are wonderful mainly because the images do have a lovely muted vellum look to them. (I did provide a closeup photo to show how the background plaid shows through, but doesn't overpower, the digi.) And they do also have a wonderful lavender fragrance (another sign of summer!) The scent is not overwhelming… but lovely. You can find links to the free lavender digi and the easy-to-follow instructions in the supplies list below. SO fun! Am entering this card into several challenges including the Di’s Digi Stamps-Load on the Flowers (my card features both images of lavender… and the scent of lavender. So I think it qualifies!)

Cute Card Thursday- Challenge #633 Anything Goes

When making my faux vellum, I used the lavender oil mix on other digi prints that I had on hand. This lovely freebie from Beccy’s Place worked great, especially when laid atop B&W patterns, which peak through the muted vellum. (I did provide a photo of two of the digis to show the difference that the faux vellum technique makes on the copy paper. Isn't it wonderful?) I didn’t want the patterns to overwhelm the butterflies and sentiment, so instead of using scraps of the full-sized sheets, I used the squares from the front of the paper pack, which most people probably toss in the trash! (But not the upcycle Queen!) After cutting them apart, I arranged them into a pattern that would best emphasize the “Butterflies and “For You” sentiments and taped them together.  I decided to add a bit of color and bling to the card with flower sequins (that look apricot or green, depending on the light) and colored the butterflies to match. Arranged and adhered everything down and added a touch of Buttercup Liquid Pearls to the center of the sequins to create an interesting card. Am leaving the inside blank so this card can be used for any reason. Am entering this card into several challenges including Bugaboo Stamps- Ladies Night (because…well… bling?!)
