It's FRIDAY!

It’s Friday, so time for another challenge at QKR Stampede!  Stop by the challenge, which is always “Anything Goes” and several prizes are awarded. Maybe you’ll be inspired to enter a card or two yourself? My DT card features a digi from QKR  named “Sneakers.”  When I saw this wonderful freebie scripture featured a few weeks ago at the Word Art Wednesday Challenge, I immediately knew that I had to pair it with this digi to make a card for the youth pastor at our church. (You can find the freebie verse HERE.) I colored the sneakers with several bright Spectrum Noir Coloring System alcohol markers and added details and highlights with a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. The background is an upcycled old map, with the city where the pastor serves right in the middle. (I think he’ll like this card. Am thinking I’ll make more of them to send to other members of the ministry teams, thanking them for the work that they do.  The sneakers were fun to color and it is the perfect time of the year to send thank you cards, right?!)

Friday also means that I get to share DT cards for the Colour Crazy Challenge. I love this challenge because it is always “Anything Goes” AND it requires coloring in “any colouring medium you like, onto any project you like, and in any colours you like.” I’ve never outgrown my love for coloring… which is why I so love making cards! The challenges last for 2 weeks but four DT teams take turns posting weekly inspiration every Friday. Join us and you might win prizes from our challenge sponsors!

Our sponsor this week is Knitty Kitty Digis and I had such a hard time picking a digi from the nice selection they offered to the DTs that I picked two! My first features a humorous image and sentiment from a set named Cone of Shame.  I just had to pull out my vellum to make that dreaded cone and love how it turned out. I colored the cat's head and added rust-colored stripes in her fur that show up nicely through the cone, adding depth and interest.  (I used  Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen to do the coloring.) It’s really nice that the sentiment comes with this digi. I don’t make many get well cards, but I think this digi might change that since I know so many cat lovers that would LOVE this card.

The second Knitty Kitty Digi features a cute image named Deep Sea.  I sketched an oval around the digi, fussy cut around the edges, then colored the image and background with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. I adhered the image to some wonderful patterned paper I’d picked up at JoAnnes that was just asking to be featured in this card! Inspiration then struck when I saw scraps of vellum on the table from making the last card. I tore it in strips and layered it atop the card. Sadly, it didn’t turn out at all like I’d hoped. Although I liked the texture and movement the vellum added, it buried the wonderful details in the beautiful kitty and his finned friends. So… off it came. (I am posting a picture of the original card. I usually only show my successes…. but I really do make quite a few cards that are taken apart and used in other cards. And some just can’t be saved and go to the trash bin! )  I finished the card with a computer-generated sentiment.

  3. A beautiful card, adding the vellum strips was a great idea but you were right to remove them, it would be shame to obscure this sweet image!
