Critters Galore

It's Wednesday! So time for another challenge at Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge Blog where challenges are always Anything Goes and prizes are awarded from one or more sponsors.  Stop by the blog to check it out! The sponsor this week is Sheepski Designs and the image is named “Winter Robin.” I do have to explain that my robin looks much different than the colored picture of the image on the Etsy site. I had colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen using that as my guide. However, when I showed it to my hubby, he said “Why did you make the chickadees breast red?” So… I did some googling and learned that the robins that we have here in the Midwest and Prairies of the USA look very different than what the websites call the "British robin" or "European robin.” Although I do love their delicate little bodies, (which make ours look like overweight body builders!)  I recolored mine to resemble the robins that look for worms in our front flower garden. I shared a few photos so you can see the difference. The sentiments are from Beccy's Place digi sets. (The one on the front is from a set named “Baby Robin” and the one on the inside is from a set named “Lamb of God.”) Oh, and the cloudy background is made with a light blue inkpad, a makeup sponge and a template cut from cardboard.

This next card was created for a dear friend that I’ve met in blogland. Di runs a wonderful challenge named “Pixies Snippets” that requires us to use scraps and snippets of paper that might otherwise get tossed. She also posts adorable pictures of her pup named Dudley. So… when I saw this wonderful digi from Aurora Wings named Puppy In A Boot (in a free Kit & Clowder offer on FB), I knew that I had to request a copy and create a Snippets entry with it! I printed the image on kraft paper and then printed just the puppy part on white cardstock. I colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers, a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen, and a white colored pencil, then fussy-cut and attached it on the kraft image with double-stick tape. The card layout is from the current Stella Says Sketch Challenge, and I raided my scrap box for the paper that I used to die cut two circles. The little paw prints were punched from an upcycled card and the inside uses one small scrap of paw print paper (I didn’t have enough to use on the front, and they were out of it at Hobby Lobby, so I showcased the little snippet here.) The sentiments are freebies from Décosse's Dynamite Doodles ("I WOOF You") and Desert Diva ("i miss you").
(Sadly, it appears that the little Pup in the boot is no longer available from Aurora wings. I did find a photo of the original digi from 2014 that I provided below. Also, I found a cute little Christmas puppy  digi that is currently  available. You can catch him HERE.)
An exciting note- I discovered that this digi is available as a freebie on the Aurora Wings FB site. Here is how to obtain it- Join the group HERE then click on "files" on the left bar, scroll down (you might need to hit the "more" button) and you'll find the "Puppy in a Boot" image. Yay!

My final card for this post features an adorable image from Little Scraps of Heaven (LSOH) named “Panda Takeout.” Sadly, this digi is no longer available. However, Tricia, the artist behind LSOH offers a freebie every week and the current one is an adorable little green Frankie! Stop by to pick him up, or see  the current weeks freebie (and you can sign up for an email reminder if desired.) Here is the link.
The Panda Takeout was a colored image. I just added a bit more depth and high lights to the coloring with Spectrum Noir markers and a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen. I then fussy-cut the little cutie, then adhered him atop some patterned papers and a layer of vellum with foam tape. I  remember purchasing a few takeout containers years ago and found one in my stash, although the wire handle was long ago used for other purposes! The box still worked as a perfect treat holder, which will be filled with goodies and delivered to a panda lover in the near future.
The current Freebie is Little Frank!

  4. I saw your robin on Outlawz and came to see why it was coloured differently to "our" robin. We have 2 resident "British" robins in our garden and love their cute cheeky ways. I love your little robin and your colouring is awesome. Love your other cards too, such beautiful work.

    1. Thanks, Faith. After reading your comment and went back and posted photos of "our" robin. They look like overweight bodybuilders compared to your cute little birds. They actually do become quite large. I've seen one take on a squirrel at our feeder... and WIN!

  5. Oh my gosh, Kathy! That puppy in a boot! I'm drooling all over my computer keyboard. It is absolutely the cutest, and you have colored it so wonderfully! I also love the European Robin. You are such a talented lady. And, when is our coffee get together? We should do that before the snow flies. I'm ready when you are! Thanks for linking up at Stella Says Sketch!
